Little Phatty USB type?

Post by grantb5 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 2:46 pm

Hi,

Kind of a dumb (pre-purchase) questions here. Does the LP enumerate over USB as a MIDI device or some other kind of device? If it identifies as a MIDI device, can you then use the 5 pin DINs as MIDI I/O for the PC?

Also , can you do firmware updates (using SysEx or other) or USB or 5 pin DIN (MIDI)?

It shows up as a USB Composite device. Firmware updates should be done with MIDI I/O for best reliability imo. I haven't tried FW updates with USB though, maybe Amos could shine some light on this?

Thanks for the info. BTW I'm a Windows user. Does Moog supply drivers of their own or is it some standard device type?

Standard windows drivers, usb os updates work fine using the Sound Tower editor software. Should also work using SysEx in a sequencer via usb.

Cool. And when connected by USB, what of the 5 pin DIN MIDI connectors -- can you then use the 5 pin DINs as MIDI I/O for the PC? That is, does the LP act like a MIDI interface allowing other devices connected to the LP to connect to the PC (if you get my drift)?

Haven't tried it, but yes.
