Tribute Upgrade
i havent opened my LPTE up yet, but i am assuming all the aforementioned chips are surface mount and not through hole (or better yet, socketed). so is the memory upgrade a chip upgrade or can we just swap out a board?
the reason i ask is: if i can help it, i would rather not trust my synth in the hands of UPS (or USPS or FedEX or anybody but me!). I have built quite a bit of modular synth stuff and have lots of diy experience.....but with through hole. just some surface mount stuff (that was messy). If the swap is not too bad, i would save the trip to moog.
but it looks like i will be sending it to them, with a prayer that the carrier doesnt kill my package.
last question:
if i send my synth to moog, can i keep the take off parts as spares?

Everything in the Little Phatty is surface mount. I had very good luck with using UPS shipping my LP in the road case sold on the website. Of course, I saved some money buying the case through Sam Ash. I would NOT attempt to switch ANYTHING out of the LP, no matter HOW experienced you are...unless you have all the tools Amos does. The ribbon cables that connect the two main boards are a real killer to get perfectly seated. I tried for 30 minutes and still couldn't get it right! Do your LP a favor. Send it to Asheville to get updated.lanxe wrote:i havent opened my LPTE up yet, but i am assuming all the aforementioned chips are surface mount and not through hole (or better yet, socketed). so is the memory upgrade a chip upgrade or can we just swap out a board?

i live in the US........so more than likely, i will just shut up and ship it in for this upgrade.haiku-ish wrote:Voltor7, all of the LP owner don't live in the USA.Do your LP a favor. Send it to Asheville to get updated.
Still would like to know about the take off parts and if i can keep them (like the old memory chip and such). at the very least to say i still have the original TE!

Actually, that's a good point, for some reason, don't know which, but it feels like a good idea ...lanxe wrote:Still would like to know about the take off parts and if i can keep them (like the old memory chip and such). at the very least to say i still have the original TE!

Yes, I am aware of that. But judging from the original message, I was able to figure out that lanxe does reside in the US. If you or another known international Mooger had asked for advise, I'd have said to go to a qualified local tech. Or more than likely, kept quiet and let Amos answer the post.haiku-ish wrote:Voltor7, all of the LP owner don't live in the USA.Do your LP a favor. Send it to Asheville to get updated.

Re: No
But you CAN install TE OS2 in the upgraded TE. I imagine you could install the regular OS2 in an upgraded TE, but then you'd lose a bunch of stuff that only affects the TE. Like the AUTO feature.dave500 wrote:No you can not install the SE OS2 into your TE they are coding a new OS2 for the TE.

[quote="Amos"]Hi gang,
Here's the latest news, so read carefully.
Also in the works:
For people who have a Tribute Edition and aren't getting the memory upgraded, for whatever reason, we are also going to release a new OS v1.04 for Tribute Edition only; This OS is basically the same as the current OS 1.03Tc, with the addition of a new "Auto" mode for the EGR Matrix.
At least for now I will not want to do the hardware upgrade to get to
version 2 unless I can find a *really* good tech to do that as I live
outside the USA, and I was wondering if the calibration issue (the high
pitched whine on some notes after doing the calibration procedure) will be
solved as well with v1.04?
Anyway, good to see that Moog is still trying to help people when a
product is not commercially interesting-, or not available, anymore.
Cheers,
Rudelius

OS V2.0
I don't think SE OS 2.0 will let you install to a TE. It should fail on the install. They are not the same synth even with a memory upgrade.
Model D, Little Phatty Tribute w/cv, The Rogue, MF-102, CP-251, Animoog and Filtatron
Re: OS V2.0
Oh yeah...good point! Too many synths that have similar names.dave500 wrote:I don't think SE OS 2.0 will let you install to a TE. It should fail on the install. They are not the same synth even with a memory upgrade.
