Single Osc. Pitch Mod
Single Osc. Pitch Mod
Hello there,
I have a patch on my voyager that has the 3 oscillators tuned to a major triad, and have been trying to work out how to set up one of the wheels to turn it into a minor triad.
The best I've been able to come up with is via pot mapping. I've turned the pitch wheel amount off, then mapped the wheel to oscillator 2 pitch, with an amount of 25%. This works, but it requires a partial bend on the pitch wheel, and getting it to be in tune is kinda hit or miss.
Any ideas?
Todd

While I continue to ponder if it's possible to do this, here's an idea:
Detune one of the oscillators to create a minor triad and save that patch in the very next memory slot. You will allow you to switch back and forth between major and minor triads with just a quick patch change. If the patch is the sustaining type, you can switch between patches (major->minor or minor->major) without having to retrigger the envelope.
You can take this idea further, adding any three-note combination patch (augmented, diminished, inverted, etc.) to additional memory slots. You can use this technique to make up all the chords in a song, turning the Voyager into a psuedo-poly synth.
Pot map solution sounds neat but if you need to be precise :? I'm not sure what to tell you. You can also set the mod wheel to ON>Osc 2 and adjust the bend with the amount knob, of course. Using pedal/on like this and having it glide up with the filter is especially cool *coughhoedowncough*
This works great, and so simple. I guess you can pick the new boy. Just have to be quick on the mod wheel.
Thanks.

Re: Single Osc. Pitch Mod
Maybe we all just have to practice this a lot. Bends on guitar take a lot of practice to get right consistently.tnden wrote:Hello there,

Country Moog
Okay, this works great!
-Init parameters
-turn on osc 2, set pitch to play a minor third(about 2o'clock)
-turn on osc 3, set pitch to play a fifth (about 4 o'clock)
-set mod wheel buss to on/mod1; dest=osc2 amount=about 1 on the dial
It took a minute to dial in the right pitches( I had to shut 2 n 3 off for a sec) then I pushed the mod wheel forward then adjusted the amount until the minor third became a major third
VOILA! Instant pedal steel/moogie synth bliss:)!!
note: the mod amount knob is pretty damn touchy so it may take some careful tweaking!!

double bends
If you really want to get tricky try some double bend stuff...
start with the pedal steel patch already mentioned and set pedal/on buss to
source=on/mod2
dest=osc 3
shaping-on/pgm
amount=pretty f-ing tricky to set but sounds super cool moving from root to dominant 7(since you're bending the fifth I think it'd actually be bending to the 11th;)
The only thing is we're dealing with analog so even after you save a patch when you come back to it you may have to fine tune the extensions. Damn tempered tuning!
Cheers
