so many choices...

Post by minuteman » Thu Mar 16, 2006 7:35 am

Well, I am about to go in for the MuRF 105.

As you know, there a many accessories, e.g.: the Expression Pedal, the Tap Tempo Pedal, the Female/Male Step Adaptor. The MuRF by itself is expensive and these components combined add another ~$100

Based on those who have had some time with their MuRF, I am curious based on your own applications what, if any, of the above components are "must haves"

If the 105 is the only CV unit you have, get an expression pedal or two for the CV jacks. If you have an LFO or other CV gear that can modulate the 105, then use that. The other stuff is nice to have to augment your sound, but the EP-1 is a must have if your 105 is stand-alone.

Lengai:

Thanks for the input.

Yes, leaning towards your reco given that I have a Machinedrum that I hope to use to modify the tempo via sending audio pulses. Not sure how well it will work, but I will find out on Friday when it arrives.

The notion of using the Tap Tempo Pedal and the male/female adapter thing for manually stepping through patterns is somewhat intriguing, but I need to get my head around it a bit more to fully appreciate the benefit...

I don't have a machinedrum, but I know there is another, recent thread about it on this site so maybe that will help. The only thing with the machinedrum i sthat it amy be more of a gate signal like the FS-1 where the EP-1 works more like a hand turning the knobs.

Does the MD have 6 aggignable outs?(not sure the specs)

If you can send a signal to say output 5 going into the MuRF, and use stereo outs of the MuRF, it will sound amazing.

I would have totally different effects on each output.

The MuRF will blow you away.

Well, thanks to Amos in technical support (and you folks) I am on my way to sonic heaven.

I am using the step adapter and sending click tracks from my Machinedrum to create some very cool sequence progressions. This opens up a nice spectrum of possibilities way beyond just using the Rate knob to step through the selected Animations.

Man, I love this thing with my guitar and it is a real stand out on my board that has some very nice pedals, e.g., Echoczar, Red Witch Moon Phaser, Teese RMC 3, DLS Chorus Vib, etc.

minuteman,

I find expression pedals are useful for the Murf and the tap tempo footswitch is also useful. I don't care for the Moog expression pedal but I really like Ed Rembold's (Toneczar) "Moog version" expression pedal (from an Ernie Ball VP Jr.).

Jeff:

Thanks. Yes, Ed does great work. I have his Echoczar and have been saving up for an Angel Baby and is new VFM pedal.

I may go for his Ernie Ball mod if I am not able to find someone who has an extra 100k linear pot that I can install in a EB volume pedal I already own.

The folks over at HugeRacks just teamed up and made a bulk purchase from Tocos (where they manufacture the correct pots for the EB mod) but I missed it...
