Just picked up a Little Phatty and have been enjoying it immensely. It’s the stage 1 version without USB. It currently has firmware 3.1 on it. I went to go and update the firmware with the supplied HEX file for 3.2(StageSystem_v3_21_Update.zip). I followed the instructions to load the file into the Phatty Loader, held down Master to get the synth into boot loader mode and then send the HEX. It sends everything over but I get a checksum error every time. I’ve tried pretty much every combination of packet size and speed with no luck. I can load the 3.1 firmware with the Sysex file just fine, and that’s what I’ve reverted back to.
Has anyone had this issue? Is there a Sysex file I can try for 3.2 instead of the HEX? Thanks for any help you can provide!
try to change buffer/timeout settings in SYSEX loader software
maybe you also will need a different USB cable/port or direct DIN MIDI connection via separate interface
I’m experiencing the exact same issue as OP. I have a LP stage I with CV out mod. I was about to go purchase a new midi device thinking mine was corrupting the sysex, but lo and behold firmware 3.1 680 loads perfectly fine every time. Anyone else have any ideas?
I was just about to update my stage 1. I would prefer sysex over hex if possible. I need to make sure I have an old OS on hand, then I’ll give it a go and report back.
I am having the same problem! I have a Little Phatty Stage 1.
It will receive the 3.1 firmware just fine using the loader. When I try to update to the newer 3.2 firmware, I get a checksum failure every single time. I’ve tried adjusting the speed to make it slower (as recommended) but still no success. I also tried different Midi Interfaces and computers, still no success.
So I load 3.1 again and it works no problems (at original speeds too)
Can anyone shed some light? 3.2 just doesn’t want to work for some reason… has anyone else struggled with this?
Not really an issue, but a question: I have usb on my LP stage II (running os version 3.1) - can I update to OS 3.2 using the midi din connector or do I have to use the usb connection?
Hey all. I contacted Moog support about this issue and although they were really helpful I could not get the 3.2 firmware to work. Again, I am able to update to every other version I’ve tried previous to 3.2. As far as I can tell the 3.2 file on the site currently does not work with the Stage 1 Little Phatty. Hopefully they will update it to fix the checksum error.
I had this issue when updating my LP Stage 2
Having followed the instructions in the text file included with the updater I kept ending up with the message -Please Send Firmware
I resolved the problem by experimenting with the timing settings in the Phattyloader app, basically it worked when I set the timing interval to “500ms slow” packet size “256 bytes” normal (updating using a USB connection from my macbook pro)
Be aware though that presets 1-56 disappeared during the update
I’ve tried all sorts of combinations with intervals and packet size. No Luck. I can also get the beta 3.2.685 loaded with no issues. Seems to me like the issue is directly related to 3.21
I am basically having the same problem.
My LP1 is running through a MOTU midi express 128 to my PC.
I put the LP into bootloader mode and open the bootloader software, select the midi port, and load the .hex file.
Everything seems to be sending just fine and the LPs display shows that it is receiving the packets.
The LP then reloads the bootloader and I can’t get out of it.
I power off the synth and turn it back on. Sometimes I get a slow low pitched glide noise, but the display continues to read:
Little Phatty, Boot v1.1
Checksum Failure, Erasing Flash…
Checking for USB Module
Please Send Firmware
I can’t get it out of this mode, and all combinations of time/ size don’t help.
Andy Hughes at tech support was helping me with this issue, but after I sent a video showing the whole sequence of events, his communications gone dead.
Same problem over here! Can’t load firmware 3.21 (690) on my LP1. I CAN load the older firmwares just fine, so I know I am doing this properly. I have been back and forth with the MOOG tech support and have gotten no where. Maybe its a MIDI problem as the Stage 2 can load it fine.
