Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Hello, i have a brand new Voyager OS #520, the new version with the fatar keyboard. Hey, it´s a great synth and much closer to the old Model D than the performer (yes,i also own a performer). So i am a lucky man. BUT: I had hanging tones! That is not good. Think, you have to play the solo of your live to an audience of 40.000 people - and then suddenly one tone plays continuously!!!! I had to switch the synth off and on an then it worked like it should. Some days later the same procedure. So man can say that the OS is NOT the right synthesizer for professionel working. I heard from a technician that this problem is not unknown. Is anybody here in this forum with the same problem? What can we do? Bob will not help us. I heard that this is a typical OS problem in synths above serial number 500.
Please let me hear and - the most important thing - let the MOOG GUYS HEAR!! I love this synth, but it should work properly.
Thank you for answering, cheers
Martin

Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Im sure that this one little bug shouldn't ruin the synth or make it not worthy for the professional. Its a professional instrument. THey will get back to you. To expediate things, you might want to call them or email them directly.

Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Eric,
you call it "one little bug", i call it "the worst case in live gigging". Maybe that it is not so important for the basement-knob-twigglers, but live musicians need reliable instruments.
Some News: They changed the processor in the synth to save some money. The old OS had the cheaper chinese keyboard and the good processor, the OS #500+ got the better Fatar-keyboard but a cheaper chip. Maybe that they can fix it by updating de software - that´s a job for Rudi Linhard, who build the software for the old, good working chip.
Hey, man, its a high end synth! It should work without problems. Every 25$-Casio-whistlebox does it.
Moog knows about this problem very well.
I am unhappy, but smile while twiggling in my basement.....
Have a nice weekend + best regards

Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
I wouldn't give any attention to a comment like that. Completely unsubstantiated but easy to spread around. These forums are not full of people claiming the note doesn't stop no matter how infrequently. I can make that happen with a faulty midi cable. If you have a problem, contact your seller or Moog.Resonator wrote: I heard from a technician that this problem is not unknown.
Cheers,

I've stopped talking now.
Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Pretty hard for a MIDI cable to cause a trouble with an OS. I would call Moog and get it resolved.

Thats nearly right. If i ask Moog, they will tell me to send the synth back to my seller. That sucks. So i asked the man, who will get the synth from my seller to repair it - and he told me that, what i told you: It is a wellknown problem. I have to live whith this problem. Moog has to modify the OS software or return to the old chips/processor. But at time they have better things to do: The release of the XL. We OS-owners have to wait.
Don´t think, that the Moog people tell us all what they know.....
Best regards
Martin
P.S.: My OS worked fine last week, we will see....

Why not send it in?Resonator wrote:BUT: I had hanging tones!
With this defect the synthesizer is absolutely unusable, so it has no worth for you standing around untouched.

Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Hey,
I just had another hanging tone with my Performer Edition. I have had these hanging tones when playing Voyager alone and from the DAW via midi. It is not the same tone everytime what hangs. The problem is fortunately rare but irritating. One solution what worked for me is to change keyboard transpose. When you touch transpose value the tone stops hanging and then you can change the value back. My Voyager is 5 months old and I´m gigging musician too. I hope we get software update or something what would fix this problem in easy way. If I take Voyager to maintenance, it is very difficult to fix this problem because it occurs so infrequently. Sorry for my English I hope you understand what I am saying.

what i've found so far it seems this is wide-spread problem.psicolor wrote:Why not send it in?Resonator wrote:BUT: I had hanging tones!

i've it too. but it is not guaranteed the hardware replacement will bring any good as it goes through all the models and you got the very high risk to appear again on replaced synth again. i've contacted moog about that as others.
Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
Happens from time to time on my 5 month old Voyager too and don't fancy gigging live and that happening!
Never had that on any other synth and I don't think it's the keyboard causing it.

Re: Voyager OS has "hanging tones"
And I had a hung note (just yesterday) on my Little Phatty... first time. Not sure what else was going on (whether or not it was being flooded with Midi from elsewhere in my Studio). I struck the key that was hung again and it silenced it.
Obviously, very different than what would be possible on an Old School (I have one also... am baffled how that could happen intermittently since it's a hard wired device; as far as I know... (!!). Please post resolution once you get it.
