Hi... I'm SURE this must has been discussed before, I did tried searching not only on this forum but on Google, but I haven't found a thread that address this specifically.
I haven't owned a Model D but I have heard plenty of it and its clear for me that it sounds different to the Voyager, which I do own.
Can someone explain why the sound is different at its most basic level (no fancy modulation or anything like that applied, just the raw oscilators)?
I understand that with the Voyager they had to solve some old problems existing on the MiniMoog, like oscilator going out of tune, I would assume they are using different components (I'm an electronics illiterate) to fix that.
Basically it was impossible to built a stable MiniMoog without sacrificing that distinctive sound from the old models?
Where exactly is the difference, on the type of oscilators? Or are all the key components different (oscilators, filters, EGs, amplifiers, etc)?
I would love to know more about electronics and avoid asking this sort of questions!
Thanks for any info on this!
Voyager's sound vs Model D
Re: Voyager's sound vs Model D
The waveforms were a little sharper edged on the D when viewed with a scope. That makes for more harmonics for the filter to work with. Also, the D could overdrive the filter quite nicely. To do that on the Voyager, read the article "Kicking it up a notch' on Knob Tweak.
"Music expresses that which can not be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."

Alright, but why the voyager doesn't have that type of oscilators?
Do I need a yahoo email to join Knob Tweak? What's the link?

Re: Voyager's sound vs Model D
Hey there sorry I need some help considering tuning problems. Since I never really got much of a response in the other forum catagory I figured I'd try here. My Micromoog(which is fairly similar to the minimoog) is out of tune. Do you think it could be what you are talking about? A bad oscillator? O r is it an adjustment that can be made on the inside? If you do have an answer possibly post it here http://www.moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopi ... une#p72139 . Whatever the help I would gladely appreciate it.
