Precision vs. MIDI amount in edit menus

Post by Franz Schiller » Thu Jan 21, 2010 5:58 pm

Hi there,
So I got my MP a few weeks and love the ever-lovin-crap out of it. One thing though...

I'm using the MP with my Lil Phatty, via MIDI. The Lil Phatty responds to MIDI CC numbers and MIDI amounts (I guess its called). In the edit menus of the MP201, it really only seems to operate in precision values, 0-5000, instead of MIDI amounts 0-128.

Now, I can figure out the conversion roughly, but is there any way for the edit menus to work in MIDI amounts? I tried changing the "Display Units" in the utilities menu, but that only changes the amounts while in Single/Quad mode, and but NOT edit mode.

Did I miss something, or is this not possible?

Thanks!

From the manual "DISPLAY UNITS allows you to select the way data is displayed on the LCD.
When OFF is selected, no data values are displayed in the LCD.
When VOLTS is selected, data is displayed as a voltage level. The voltage range is
displayed to two decimal places: from -5.00 to +5.00V (Bipolar) or 0.00 to +5.00
(Unipolar).
When MIDI is selected, data is displayed as a range of values from 0 – 127 (a value of
64 is the mid-point).
When PRECISION is selected, data is displayed as a range of values from 0 – 4095 (a
value of 2048 is the mid-point).
To make a change to Display Units, press ENTER, then use the VALUE knob to choose
the desired data display type. Press EDIT once to return to the Utilities menus, or twice
to escape."

Thanks, but as I explained, I already tried that. That only changes the units in Single or Quad mode, NOT in the edit menus.

I'd really like to be able to work in MIDI CC amounts 0-128 when programming. I'm wondering if its possible at all.

I think this might be an oversight... certainly, the display units should affect the Edit menu also. I know I will be working on MP-201 code again later in 2010... I am adding this to my development list. Thanks for mentioning it!

Well, at least I'm not crazy!

But that definitely answers my question. Thanks for getting back to me!
