What effects are you using with your Voyager?

I'm thinking of getting a few Electro Harmonix pedals for mine. Phaser, Delay maybe. BTW, do I interface them like I would for guitar or do I use the back panel?

The back panel is only for CV inputs to the Voyagers various destinations.

Two exceptions:

There is an Audio Input and theres also a Mixer out/Filter In jack, that you can use any of the EHX or any other effects there with a TRS cable. A phaser would probably work really well, as would a distortion pedal.

All of my mono pedals are daisy chained through the mixer out/ filter in jack. All of the stereo effects are daisy chained off of the output of the Voyager, ultimately going into the mixer, and from there into the active speakers.

If you're thinking of getting an EHX Delay, wait for the DELUXE Memory Boy which is showing in NAMM next week.

Nothing is going to have a CV in to sync modulation to pedal echo (nothing affordable that is !!) but with tap tempo this is at least doable for modest 600ms-1kms delays.

I've been researching delays for a few weeks now and if you are into analog and don't have 700+ for the Moog Delay, the Diamond Memory lane 2 is $599 (still too much) but down around $200 is the new, yet to be released DELUXE Memory Boy which is a) Analog, b) has effects loop, c) has exp pedal input to control any one of four parameters, and d) has built in modulation (or obviously, you can route the delay loop out of the SEND and back into RECEIVE with any of your fancy Moog gear.

I found a number of Analog sounding but digital Delay pedals such as the Tech21 D.L.A Tap, the T-REX Reptile, and the slightly more pricey Carl Martin Echotone, but if you want a golden combination of features, you might not find what you want in an affordable package until now. It's due to be released in Feb.

The Malekko 616 is also very very nice but doesn't have Exp input, loop or much else. The best sounding standard package Analog pedal in my opinion is the MXR CarbonCopy.

Done for now.. phewww, except stay away from the Seymour Duncan Deja Vu. It's killer on paper but I've been through two of them and sent them both back due to poor QC.

You should check out ProGuitarShop.com's demos (Andy does a great job) and they have a very good 45 day return policy. Also, Burgerman666 on YouTube (Brett Kingman from AUS) does a really good job at all of these effects.

I must be unlucky then. Most of the pedals I have tried require a pre amp to boost the signal on the way back in.
Can someone please confirm if the Electro Harmonix stuff can be used with a Voyager with out having to add a pre amp/d.i. box ?

I have the electro harmonix bass balls and it does not require a preamp.

Though, its not the greatest pedal to use with the Voyager because the Voyagers filters will sound EXACTLY like it.

I also don't have much usage for using envelope followers on a synths output because I think that envelope followers respond best to stringed instruments or the Theremin. Having a synth to do a slow volume rise just to get the Bassballs to sweep its filters sort of misses out on the tone you are trying to produce, unless you are trying to do a pad or something. But like I said, the Voyagers filters seem to have a Bassballs built inside it as it sounds exactly the same lol.

Electro Harmonix goes really great with Moog, and if you want to take them to the next level they can be modded out too.


Im about to get the Graphic Fuzz for my sister, and Im going to see how it works in the mixer out filter in and Ill let you know how that goes.

Also, if you are spending upwards ot 200 on a delay, consider the Boss RE20 Space Echo. It has tap tempo and its $250. It also is usable with an expression pedal.


Probably if I was going to get a delay pedal and I didn't want to spend 700 dollars on another Moog or something nice like that, Id get the RE-20, then the MXR Carbon Copy (analog bucket brigade delay). Theres nothing wrong with a digital delay but I really prefer analog.

I tried out one of the TC Electronic stomp boxes today. I tried the Modulation one. They had a price of $295 on it. It's stereo and has dual controls for the L and R inputs, thereby allowing for two mono instruments to be mangled with different parameters and effects simultaneously. They could be separated or link with a sync'd LFO. Ofcourse you could send just one stereo instrument into each as well and have two different effects on both sides. I must say, I was very impressed. It was clean. It offered quite a few effects and parameters to be tweaked.

Personally, I use a Line 6 EchoPro rack unit with a Lexicon MPX550. I have tons of pedals, as well as Moogers, but when playing live I try and keep everything simple and just use the EchoPro and Lexie.

+1, great with a Space Echo/tape delay also.

Other than Sherman, of course the Moogerfoogers work well too.

I find delays hard to use in the loop, as the gate closes (according to the envelopes) when you're not playing. This makes the delay units hard to "play".

If you get a Moog phaser you can also control it dynamically via an envelope for some cool sounds.

Get the Electro-Harmonix POG (i haven't tried the new one, but it has an attack control which is pretty cool). It will make your voyager sound insane. It can make anything do a B3 impression, and with the voyager it sound's really sick and twisted. For delay, I would go with an MXR Carbon Copy (no tap tempo, but still great). I also love sending my voyager through crazy fuzz pedals (devi ever, zvex, etc...).

I have a few I like to use:

Roland SDX-330. Not too well known, but someone turned me onto this as a really good chorus/ensemble unit. The ensemble effect is absolutely amazing; it's like an Elkorus for less than 1/3 the price. Run anything through and get instant string-synth.

Boss CE-2. An old MIJ analog one. A really sweet chorus, which imparts a nice lushness and shimmer.

I also have a TC Electronic multi-FX unit that does the standard garden variety delay, reverb, phaser, flanger, etc. I pretty much only use it for the delays because it has a nice tap-tempo feature on the front panel.

I used to be a big fan of the old Alesis MIDIverb units (the II and III especially), not because of any claims to Lexicon-like sound, but because they were so bloody straightforward to use and offered a lot of direct numeric control over delay times.. Alas, I don't think those puppies were built with decades-long reliability in mind, so a lot of them seem to have died in the last few years. What used to be available in nearly every music store for $75 to $125 is now surprisingly rare.
