Guitar Feature Request - Gate WAH mode

Post by blewis » Sat Jan 02, 2010 12:20 am

I'm trying to program the MP-201 to work with my Digi Eleven Rack, and I just came really close to configuring the WAH pedal the way I wanted, but I'm not able to get there.

On this device the wah's enable or bypass in controlled by a MIDI CC. The wah's range is controlled by another MIDI CC or by an expression pedal input.

What I want is similar to how the GATE channels work in ENVELOPE mode.
- Channel Mode = GATE
- Gate Source = Pedal CV
- Threshold @ 50ish
- GT/EG/WH = WH (see how I stuck that new feature in there? It's even 8 characters wide. ;-))

Here's how the feature would work. I set the Pedal all the way back on the heel and the Channel and the Gate is disabled (i.e. MIDI CC = OFF and CV = 0v). When I rock the pedal forward, past the threshold, I want the Gate to send "ON" on the MIDI CC channel and then I want to Pedal to send out continuous CVs on the CV line.

This way, when I rock the pedal forward, I can MIDI enable the wah and I can send CVs to the Expression pedal input to control the range of the wah. This would keep me from having to do the "button dance" where I have to hit a button and then move my foot to the pedal to enable the wah pedal.

When I'm done, I can simply rock the pedal all the way back below the threshold and the MIDI CC goes OFF to disable the wah.

Pretty close to what the EG mode does, but instead of generating a CV envelope, the CV just follows the pedal once the gate is enabled.

That sounds like a good idea!
