Filters

Post by leelinn » Sun Sep 12, 2004 9:11 am

Hi,
i want to buy one filter to process my sounds (guitar, gameboy, C64 and so on) during my live performances.
i thinked to buy kaoss pad ( in the same device i find filter - unfortuantely no analogue filters!!:(- and loop sampler).
...mmmh...but i prefer analogue device so i'm looking for it. What do u suggest me? (I tried my friend's Korg Ms20...great filters...but it's so expansive and not so "comfortable" to carry on).

Well, since you're here you should definitely check out:

moogerfooger low pass filter

I don't have one but I presume it's the same filter that's in the voyager, which sounds great: classic moog LPF. The mf101 has two modes of LPF - 4 pole and 2 pole - and an envelope follower. Oh, and it has loads of CV possibilities, too. If you want a slightly different moog filter, you could try:

murf

I have ordered one, but haven't received it yet. It's more of a modulation effect than a straight filter, though, so it's probably not what you're looking for.

Moving further afield, since you like the ms20, you could try one of these:

frostwave resonator

It's been too long since I last used an ms20 for me to say how good a clone it is, but I like it a lot. And it sounds very different to the moog sound.

Finally, if you want the BFG of filter boxes you should definitely check out one of these:

sherman filterbank

It's an absolute killer, pretty much my favourite effects unit. It can utterly transform your sound in ways you wouldn't really expect a filter to be able to...

HTH
