finished today. Soon to be announced generally; presented here first as a gift to all you faithful forum folks. :)

Be sure to save any custom MP201 presets to your computer before you install the update --
Firmware v2.0 can import v1 presets via MIDI, but the update process will erase your existing presets from the MP201's internal memory.

All instructions and an addendum to the manual are included in the .zip files.

:D finally!! thanx a lot Amos and all the folks at Moog, this kind of things makes me wanna get more and more moog gear...

For the back up of presets do we need Midi OX, or just an USB cable?

You do need some software which can receive and save the SysEx preset data... on the PC, Midi-Ox is a good choice for this.

Connect the USB, open Midi-Ox, go to Options->Midi Devices and make sure that "usb audio device" is selected as a MIDI input.
Then go to View->SysEx, and in the SysEx View and Scratchpad window, choose SysEx->Receive Manual Dump.

Then, on the MP-201, go to the Utilities Menu and choose Send Preset to send the currently-active preset as a single file, or Send All Presets to send all presets at once.

I recommend sending each preset as its own file, unless you have a whole lot of custom presets saved and don't want to be bothered. In any case, once the data is sent, you would go to the Display Window menu and choose Save As. Name the file to match the name of the preset, and you've got it backed up and ready to load into the MP-201 again after the firmware update.

Cheers,

Amos

Great news!

Now if I have done my homework, all I would need is an S-trigger inverter cable assembly to do the midi-to-CV thing on s minimoog model D, right?

Bad news for me. I performed the update as per the instructions included in the zip file. Everything went smoothly and I saw all of the appropriate feedback on the MP201 screen. I saw it reboot into V2.00. Then successfully loaded the factory presets, did the factory restore, and calibrated the foot pedal. Everything went well.

Then I went and had some dinner. When I came back my Mac showed a message on the screen that said it needed to be restarted. I've never seen that particular message before. It was shown in several different languages. The MP201 was still connected but I didn't look at it so I don't know what the screen displayed at that point. After I restarted the Mac I went to try the pedal and although it was powered up the LCD screen was blank. It was also non responsive to button presses/knob turning. SysEx Librarian no longer sees the MP201 at all.

What happened? And what can I do now?

Thanks.

Drat, and I was hoping for a perfect track record for this update...

We can re-program the MP201 here at Moog, or I can provide instructions for you to do it; I've sent you a PM.

I almost wonder if there wasn't some sort of power fluctuation or other electrical disturbance; I am sure the message on your Mac was related to whatever might have happened. if you remember any more details about the "re-start" message, I can try to research what kind of events might have triggered the message to appear. Perhaps that can offer some clues.

All I can say is I'm sorry, and let's see how the MP-201 fares after re-programming... if it's any consolation, there have not been any other problems reported so far...

Kind regards,

Amos
