mic into the external in
mic into the external in
this is another beginner question:
i plugged a mic (sure SM-58) into the external audio in, switched the Env/gate to on/external, and i can see that the signal is generated because if i raise the external gain i see the overdrive led terns on.
but still i dont hear anything comming out of the mic?
whats the mistake?
thanks a lot for the patience for beginners

Env On should be fine. Tweak the envelope and filter so you would normally hear a long sustained note. ie: Set filter wide open, Attack down, Sustain up. Another way might be to find a sound that sustains when Env On is enabled and then just turn off the osc in the mixer.
Minimoog Voyager Performer Edition + LP Stage II + Sub37 + Model D reissue + CP-251 + VX-351
Before you use the microphone, find a continuous source of audio such as a CD player. Learn the nature of the controls with that and it will become clear what you have to do. I would tell you, but I usually have to ecperiment with it my self for each use. But if you use the microphone for testing, you will go mad and ruin your voice repeating - check 1,2...laa, laa, laaa...etc.

Sustain of the volume envelope should be set to max for the best s/n ratio. When it is set to zero, the VCA won't let some sounds pass through once the delay segment of the envelope is gone. And this happens when you switch to external too.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

amotz,
I've just uploaded a patch for the Voyager on the Knob Tweak group to demonstrate the use of the ext. input. Look for wontfool.syx. This should help you get a feel for using the voyager to modify external sources.
(Was also my first foray into using MIDI and my computer on the Voyager.) I can see a use for those plugs now!
For those of you who know better. I know that the sound can be {and was} done with out using the external in, but this is a cool way to use the external in and experiment with the flexibilty of the platform.
