the people want... noise!

Post by tr909 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:40 pm

Is there any possiblity of adding noise as an audio source that can be mixed in like an osc? It is such an important element of classic monosynths.

I do not know the specifics of the noise in the LFO section so not sure what is possible.

I'm curious:

Is the LFO noise digital or analog?

Would so love to have noise (even if digital "virtual" noise) as a sound source to mix in. (Yes I'm aware that adding heavy noise LFO gives a noise like effect).

Thanks.

I use my CP-251 for noise. A really cool thing to do, IMHO, is to run the CP's noise out to audio in of the LP. Gives you a kind of wind effect. You can also run S&H out to the LP's audio in for random wave-crashing sounds.

On the Voyager, if you use Noise as a voltage on an Osc, it sounds like running water/applause affecting the pitch.

I plan to use the white noise on the cp251 too.

However I would love to be able to store the patches - thus noise as an audio source built into the LP.

Also, if I was unclear above - what I would like to see is simply a way to "turn up" noise volume just like osc1 and osc 2. Just not sure if the LP has an analog noise circuit to turn up/mix in - or if the noise on the LFO is just a cpu generated noise approximation.

I do know the LP's LFO is a software feature. I never had any luck with using the noise on the LP. Not sure if there is a way to control it by MIDI, either. :?

i definately think the noise in the modulation bus can do that....

first in the ADVANCED PRESET menu set "MOD SRC 6" to NOISE

don't forget to set LFO source to OS2 on the phatty panel.

play with rate and amount and use the mod wheel.

Btw, i'm pretty sure it's analog since it's been told multiple times that the LP sound bus is completely analog.

i use noise really often, it's a blast, so have fun.

Thanks, that does indeed work.

However that is using noise as a control source.

I want to use it as an audio source.

Using noise as a mod source gives the effect of noise but is not noise. You are hearing the VCO/VCF/mod dest. modulated by noise.

I want actual noise as a audio source (not control source).

Does anyone from Moog monitor this forum? It's a very easy question:

1. Is the noise source digital or analog
2. Any chance of a software update allowing it to be mixed in as an audio source.

Thanks.
