erratic behaviour in midi chain

Post by Jurgis » Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:25 am

My multipedal is creating midi problems in my guitar rig configuration. It works accordingly for a while, ignores program messages every now and then, and often stops receiving messages and toggles unwanted cc messages or program changes at high speeds making everything else in the chain after it go haywire.

my midi chain:
GCX groundcontrol--(transmits program change on 4 seperate channels)-->sansamp PSA1.1--(thru)->MP-201--(midi merge+cc messages)-->eventide ModFactor-->eventide TimeFactor

This also happens on settings where no LFO's are being transmitted. I've tweaked midi merge functions, disengaged each individual channel's midi cc transmission, and played around with the other devices midi channels with no success. Restoring factory settings helped for about an hour. And then everything went crazy again.

The manual warns on erratic behavior with less robust devices, but the eventide pedals and the sansamp are most certainly of high quality in terms of midi features and reliability.

Its quite disturbing. My rig used to be rock solid reliable. I use it for live applications, so it has to be. Am I overloading the Multipedal, expecting it to do a bit too much, or is this some sort of bug?

Another observation: the manual contradicts itself about what midi channels the Multipedal receives midi program messages on. On page 38 it states that, "The MP-201 recieves program changes..... on all channels". ON page 43 it reads, "The MultiPedal responds to Program Change messages recieved on channel 1". I can definitely say that the device receives program changes on all channels. Which is a bit inconvenient when working with other devices. It should have the option of receiving exclusively on one selectable channel.
