Moogerfooger Rackmount Kit-Straight edges or 'bent'?

Post by Jazzpunk » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:09 pm

Just purchased a rackmount kit for my Foogers and it appears to be bent. Is it supposed to have an 'arc' shape to it for some reason or is it supposed to be flat (I'm assuming that it is supposed to be flat)?

Silly question but just thought I'd double check before dealing with exchanging it.

you mean bowed out slightly? I assumed this was to help them push out slightly when mounted.

Yeah, I guess it's kind of 'bowed out' though as the Foogers themselves are flat on the bottom it doesn't make much sense to me. Plus only one side of mine seems to be 'bowed'!

Thanks Eric. Interesting that you say flat and someone else says 'bowed'. This a quality control issue?

Mine is flat, I don't know if they are all designed that way but it just makes sence. If its bowed its not going to fit in the rack. Im sure it could be made to but I don't think it would be to anyones advantage.

Is yours bowed concave or convex to the front of the rack? I don't really see why they would make it bowed because you have to remove the sides from the middle fooger, which leaves an annoying gap. A Convex bow would widen this gap. A concave bow would tighten this gap for sure but make installing them onto the rack difficult.

If you are going to leave the bottom metal panel on the foogers when mounted in the rack, it would have to be flat.

Thanks Eric,
I called Moog earlier and they confirmed that it should indeed be flat. They were super cool about arranging an exchange but I can just as easily exchange it locally.

What's the bit about removing the metal bottom of the Foogers? Is this a necessity or just an option?

I just got mine somewhat recently, but if you notice that those instructions are vague?

THey say to remove the bottoms, but I asked on here of people leave the bottoms on and they said that they did. So I reattatched the bottoms. Its optional, and unless you want Moog Music Boxes stacked up against a wall somewhere with misc cheek parts bottoms etc then Its really just optional.

THey secure tightly with the bottoms on so no worries there.

I dunno about anybody else, but Moog Music boxes filled with misc side panels and bottoms doesn't sound as bad to me as what you're trying to make it look.

It felt almost sacrilegious removing the wood panels from the middle fooger!

I'm a little bummed about the gap between the middle fooger and the outside ones. Dust seems to accumulate rather quickly in my apartment so I'll have to un-mount it fairly often and give it a good air dusting.

What I did is I bought a mixer rack cabinet and I put the lid back on when I am finished. I haven't had many issues with dust yet, but its a pain in the butt sometimes how I have the power rigged up.

I also drape an unused sheet over the rhodes and the Micro, and a pillowcase over the Voyager and that works better than nothing.
