Tuning problem (Scale)

Post by Mr. Incredible » Mon Dec 03, 2007 1:38 pm

I use a korg tuner to get my Voyager in tune.
Recently I noticed that the scale of my Voyager seems to be a bit off.
If I tune to, say, the middle C, all the higher notes are progressively sharp while the lower ones are progressively flat.
I've noticed this since the beginning, but it seems to have worsened a tad over the past year and it's now bad enough to actually being heard as I move up and down the scale during solo passages.

Is there a way to re-calibrate the oscillator scale (there is a dedicated "Scale" knob on some other synths that I know of, so I guess this will be hidden somewhere inside on the Voyager)...

I'd really be glad if I could fix this myself without turning it in for service.

AFAICR, the Voyager has, say, six or so pots for its tuning adjustment, which takes about an hour(?).

Ask Amos; he may be able to help you find the right one.

For the meantime, would patching KB pitch (from the 351) through an attenuator and back into the pitch input help at all?[/url]

Tuning is a lengthy procedure, and requires oscilloscope , tuner and a high quality multimeter (Fluke for example). I just did it on my Voyager and spent several hours to complete it. But now it works well with the Continuum!
If you don;t have the proper equipment it is better/cheaper to send it back to the factory.

if you are exceedingly careful, you can usually touch-up the oscillator keyboard scaling without throwing off the other calibrations. It takes a delicate hand and some patience in any case. ;)
