Interview with Joe Zawinul

Post by ramechling » Mon Jan 15, 2007 12:23 pm

Terrific interview in the Jan. www.keyboardmag.com with Mr. Z... a living legend... here's a quote from page 24:
" The synthesizer is a very difficult instrument to play, because you have to practice each sound, and get each attack so you get the right feeling of the particular sound.
Too many players still sound awkward today playing this music, and that gives the synthesizer somewhat of a bad name. The instrument itself is a wonderful thing.
Like everything, it's a tool; but this is the master tool of all the instruments."

There is a brief mention of Mr. Zawinul's use of the vocoder live and I wanted to ask all of you if you were familiar with his recordings with that most esoteric of synth modules ? Have any of you had success with vocoders ? Thanks -Richard M.
