Mooger Fooger with Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus

Post by souljah » Sat Dec 30, 2006 12:13 pm

Hello all!

I've been lurking here for pretty long already. In the quest for new sounding effects, I finally took the plunge and got myself a MuRF pedal. Excellent stuff. And these Foogers are really addictive, I've seen bought myself a Mooger Fooger Phase too, and I'm saving up, slowly but surely for a Moog Analog Delay :)

Initially I powered the 2 Moogs via a single Visual Sound Onespot power supply with polarity convertors attached. However this resulted in noise in my pedalboard. The only way I manged to solve this was to use a dedicated Onespot for each Mooger Fooger pedal.

But this is not a very viable option for me due to the space constraints of my pedalboard and the hassle of carrying around so many power supplies during jams and gigs.

I bought myself a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 plus yesterday. I've read through the instructions and all but they don't seem to be very clear as to what the dip switches on each individual output actually do.

But the bottom line is getting my Moogs to be powered up.

I tried a test run last night, the Moog Phase works fine with the normal outputs of the PP2+, but the MuRF's LEDs go dim with powered with this output. I tried using the L6 output portion of the PP2+ and this powered the MuRF with no problems so far. Note that I'm using polarity convertors for both Mooger Foogers.

Does anyone have any experience with PP2+ and their Mooger Foogers?

Also does anyone know whether it's alright to power 3 normal 9V battery pedals at the same time via a daisy chain into one output of the PP2+?

Thanks all!

Happy holidays!

If I remember correctly, the MuRFs require regulated 9VDC @ 300mA, because they have digital circuitry. (Try plugging in an un-regulated supply into a Boss DD-3; it won't power up.) So, nothing more than 9V should be supplied for the MuRFs; the other 'Foogers don't matter too much (9-15V is fine, but the excess heat caused by a higher voltage may shorten the pedal's lifetime).

So, that's voltage. Because the 'Foogers are analog, they draw a lot of current. The dim lights on the MuRF are probably caused by your PSU under-supplying the unit; it needs 300mA, so they say. At the moment, I am running an MF-102, MF-101 and a CP-251 off one supply, and an MF-103, MF-104SD and an MF-105 off another. So far, this is very quiet.

Check the manual of your PSU for its maximum current rating. In the future, I may take all of my "wall warts" out of thier plastic and case them all up in one box, and power them all with one IEC power cable (and a fuse, and a fan). I'll need some proffesional advice first, though!

not sure it applies however my VDL Pedal Power (non +) is reverse the polarity of my MF-101 - so a cable splice was in order ...
trombone tone, yeah, that's the ticket!

Thanks for the tips guys.

Problem has been solved and both Moogerfoogers are running fine now on my board. :)
