Sub-37 Multiple MIDI problems

Post by mattrglenn » Sun May 10, 2015 1:55 pm

Hello all,
I received my Sub-37 yesterday and was very excited. Unfortunately, multiple issues have arisen:

1. The pitch wheel problem—same as THIS thread. The pitch wheel appears to be stuck on +2 (or whatever the bend up value is) for me, while the bend down achieves twice the bend value (in my case, -4).

2. Intermittent notes—this is the bigger problem now. To troubleshoot the above problem, I tried to test out an external keyboard controller's pitch wheel. I use an Alesis QX25 USB controller. I checked to make sure it was outputting on the correct MIDI channel then plugged its DIN out into the Sub37's DIN input. A few notes played fine, but not long after the note input became intermittent. I unplugged the keyboard and rebooted the Moog, but even on the local keyboard it seems that the moog only registers 1 out of every 4 times I press a key as a note. Weirdly enough, if I have the arpeggiator on the problem goes away and all notes seem to register. I tried reinstalling firmware v1.1, going back to 1.0.7, and back again to 1.1, but no transition seems to be fixing the problem.

I should mention that before buying the Sub 37 I tried it out in a local guitar center. When I sat down to play with it, I immediately noticed this EXACT same problem. I let the guys there know, and they said they'd take it off the floor and fix it for the next day. I am not sure if they did or not, never heard back. I passed it off as a fluke, but clearly it is a repeated problem.

I'll contact tech support when I can, but for now I would love to know if anyone else has encountered this and if there are any solutions I'm missing.

Cheers,
~Matt

Hi Matt,

Andy from Moog Tech Support here.

Please contact me directly at andy@moogmusic.com or by phone (828)-251-0090 xts: 221, 217, or 204 and we will happily help you get these issues sorted.

It sounds like a potentiometer calibration is in order, as well as a factory reset.

Thanks,

Regarding the intermittent notes.. I noticed the same thing on mine. Firstly, does it happen on all patches or just some of them? I noticed it was only some patches that did this and I think it is to do with the how the envelopes are being triggered on that patch. One way I got around this is to engage the 'Retrig' on the envelopes. When I did this, it played every note.

Have a play and see what happens.
