Sub37 / Sub Phatty - Uneven Keys

Post by kmm08 » Sun Aug 17, 2014 8:28 am

Just received the Sub 37 the other day. I unfortunately noticed the same issue with the keybed
on the unit as I did with two Sub Phatty units that I had. The first Sub Phatty had to be returned
since one of the keys was quite a bit lower than the others. The next one was better, but still had
had keys that were a bit higher or lower than the others. I assumed this would have been corrected
on the Sub 37, but unfortunately it has not been. In fact, due to the longer keyboard, it's probably
even more noticeable. If you look straight on, the keyboard looks like it has a wave to it in spots due
to uneven heights of the keys. I sent pictures to Moog, and they said that this seemed acceptable
to them. They also said that the keyboard for both the Sub37 and SubPhatty come from the same
manufacturer. I'm not sure if this is how they kept the price down on the units, but it doesn't seem to
be a reasonable compromise to me. At this point I'm not sure whether or not to just live with it,
or return the unit altogether.

Can you post a photo here for us to see?

I tried to add an attachment, but the Reply box keeps giving the following error:

"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Maybe try to resize the picture to a smaller file size? (Or upload it somewhere else and just post a link.)

I think there is an issue with the forum and you can no longer post pictures; Originally I had a quota of 10 pictures or so and I would manage the list by removing pics from old threads so I could post new; Now I can't post anything and I have nothing posted.

But if you use Flickr or another hosting service, you can embed so try that. Worked for me and works for others. Only took me about a year to figure this out : )

There's definitely something wrong with the forum, since most of my replies I have to post 2 or 3 times before they actually show up.
No attachments will go through at all, even ones under 100 KB. I had mentioned that I compared some keyboards at a local Guitar
Center yesterday, and they all seemed more even then the Sub Phatty/Sub 37 did. Even the cheap keyboards in the store (under $1000)
were fairly straight and even in comparison. I may actually see if Moog can adjust it somehow to make it look a little better. This
definitely seems to be an issue with whoever is manufacturing the actual keyboards for these units. Besides the keys, however, the
units are built like a tank, especially in comparison to other synths on the market.

pretty sure Admin have to ok your first few posts and you cannot post pics or video's until your post count reaches a certain amount. It's not many though. basic spam handling.

Something funny I noticed

I think the picture on the box looks more uneven than the actual keys of my synth

if i get down and look right along the edge of the keys i can see a slight up and down, but honestly if i tap a few keys hard or hook my finger up underneath them a little and gently "lift" then they all line up again. There is a cushion for keys to bounce "up" into and another one when you press the key down and it comes to a stop. the cushions are quite soft, and they could be easily compressed more here or there...its not serious enough looking for me to be really worried?

Cheers,
Blackout
