Drive or Boost

Post by The303 » Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:31 am

Love the Trem. Looking to pick up the boost or drive and hope someone can point me in the right direction. I play a Strat into a 5 watt Ampeg head. Love the sound of it. However, want something to give me a little more grit. Which one should I get? Below are what I like

1. Love fuzz face over OD. Want something to give me a new sound.
2. I hate TS 9 type pedals.
3. Love open vs compressed.
4. Play in my basement, but have my amp dimmed.

Well, Boost will force your amp to distort more if it does this with being driven harder, and Drive will generate its own world of distortion, and boost only slightly.

The Drive is not a TS based pedal, and has quite a wide control over EQ. I'm sure that he TS "sound" may in fact be in the box somewhere, but not intentionally. Have a look at the vids around the net for both pedals, they do a good job of showing the different sounds available in the pedals.
Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.

I've got both. Boost is really a clean boost so if you amp is tube based or has a solid state front end that distorts nicely, it will help here. I've got a Mesa tube based Bass amp and it's good for that.

Drive unleashes whoop-@ss in every way. I could do a side-by-side demo but unfortunately, I'm not a guitar player so your mileage will vary. Worst, I've got a compressor pedal that I use in front of everything, there are so many variables, it may be best to buy both (if you can layout the $$) from either Sweetwater or ProGuitarShop then return the one you don't favor. Or return them both if neither does it for you.

Or most likely keep them both...
