Taurus stage monitor

Post by kcole4001 » Sat Feb 15, 2014 12:58 pm

Hi folks,
I've read here that some of you have various solutions for stage monitors for your Taurus pedals, notable the QSC powered KW series.

I was looking pretty closely at the KW153 3 way cab, but then realized that what some folks have been using for a 3 way application were some of Greenboy's designs.
http://greenboy.us/fEARful/
Quite a few people rave about the fEARful's power handling and low frequency capacity, not to mention being designed specifically to use modern light weight drivers, so easing the load on our poor backs.

I was curious to see if any of you folks had tried these with your bass pedals.
I suspect that they'd be at least as suitable as the QSC products, just lacking the built in power amp, so with a modern lightweight power amp in a rack case, you'd end up with something that weighed less than the KW153, which is listed at 87 lbs.

Another plus would be the price difference.
Building my own fEARful cab using a pre-cut flatpack from Speaker Hardware will cost about half the lowest (Canadian) price I found for a KW153.
Also the shipping should be less due to the lower weight.
I should likely be able to save even more by just buying the drivers and hardware in kit form and locally sourcing the plywood and cutting it myself.

I use two QSC KW152's both running through a little Mackie mixer.
Sounds fantastic. You really don't need the 153's.
I highly recommend QSC. Good stuff.
