Which Moog product to choose from?

Post by whiterabbit » Mon Sep 23, 2013 6:14 am

I have owned a Minitaur for 4 months not and although it produces some great bass sounds I have found it quite limited to what I require.
Last week I purchased the Slim Phatty which I have to say I'm in love with!! It is exactly what I was looking for and still produced some great bass sounds along with lots of everything else.

I have decided to sell the Minitaur now though as I think it could be £400 plus better spent elsewhere.

I am stuck between going for a Moogerfooger (possibly the Murf) or the CP-251.

I produce house/detroit techno if this helps!!

I would just like to expand the options of the slim phatty even further.

any advice would be appreciated.

Expression pedals are a must have if you are into controlling as many things as possible all at once. I have 9 of them and use them for all sorts of things, not just for Moog gear.

So using an expression pedal on its own with say a slim phatty?

what does this do?

Sorry im still quite new to all this?

I know with a guitar pedal (say a wah wah) you can decrease and increase the effect with the pedal.

But to use an expression pedal (without effects attached to the pedal) in a slim phatty - what would this do?

thanks

An expression pedal is nothing else than a potentionmeter you can activate with your foot.
It will act as a potentionmeter modifying the parameter you connect it to via the CV input.

All the current Moog synths (including Minitaur and Slim Phatty) have Control Voltage (CV) / Expression Pedal inputs for volume, pitch, filter, and gate. You can plug an expression pedal (or other control voltage source like a CP-251) into these jacks to externally control that parameter of the synth.

For a very basic example, an expression pedal connected to the Filter CV jack would let you manually sweep the filter using your foot, freeing your hands to play the keys and control other parameters simultaneously.

The external control can be used in addition to, or in lieu of, the front panel controls to give you a whole new range of options for controlling the synth. All the MoogerFoogers support CV inputs as well, but each Fooger has its own unique way of implementing CV control.

Cool stuff... 8)
