Problems with new Voyager...

Post by Maxwell Stark » Fri Nov 04, 2005 7:15 pm

Ok - so some basic background...

I've always been a guitar guy and I grew up on metal. I have a industrial metal band (more oldschool coldwave) and I play guitar. Lately I've been really getting into classic electronic stuff like DEVO and Kraftwerk. So, I bought myself a Voyager after only hearing great things about them. Basically its the greatest thing I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It honestly reminds me of a guitar, its seriously that expressive! But I have noticed a few odd things with it.

Forgive me if this kind of stuff is normal for a synth of this type, but I've only owned and played stuff like Waldorfs. Nords, and Korgs.

The first thing I noticed is that when I messed around with the LFO a bunch (and a few of the other knobs) the sound I was creating would just kind of fade away (I heard the term "drifting" used here before) - that is a good way to describe it

Also, I noticed once that one of the lights under one of the wheels was not working (this since has been fine)

Finally, a few times the screen would flash the Moog logo while i was playing and I would loose the sound for just a short second

Any ideas?

The sounds fades away? What OS are you on? Also check in Edit mode, you can change the Trigger Mode to play legato style (single Trigger) or if you want the envelopes to re-trigger everytime you hit a new note (Multi Trigger).

What version of the Voyager do you have? Let us know so we can try and help you out.

Ver 3.0

Yeah, its like the wave gets out of control and either turns to silence or a solid tone (i have to turn it off to reset - switching to another preset will not help) its only happened like 4 or 5 times

I"ll check the edit mode - im heading to play it now

thx for the help

I think the volume envelopes have a lot to do with the sound fading out too. Try adjusting the decay and/or sustain and see if that takes care of your problem. 8)

I did have a problem with the waves getting screwed up on my Voyager at some point. It was the strangest thing, everything would be cool for 10 minutes after power-on then I'd play a patch and it would sound completely different. Not just that patch, but all the waves in my other patches sounded different as well. Contacted support and I was just about to send my Voyager for repair when they suggested I re-load the OS (2.5). The problem went away. Hasn't happened since. Digital technology...

This almost certainly means that your voyager is suffering from a momentary power outage. That logo only appears during boot-up (which is very quick and would be indicated by the sound cutting out). I would check the power cable and ensure that it is properly seated both in the voyager and at the wall. If this doesn't help and the problem persists, I'd definitely contact Moog.

Sound like a real hardware defect. Unless you found a way to switch the LEDs by means of modulation
keep on turning these Moog knobs
