MF 104 and Patchbay

Hi everyone,

Moog is moving into a new building today so no tech support until tomorrow. I am trying to see if anyone knows what jacks on the original 104 can not be used with a patchbay (if any)? Otherwise, once I find out from Moog, I'll post it here so everyone will know.

Audio In, Mix Out, Delay Out can be patched out.

Loop In needs to be normalled to Loop Out.

The voltage controlled inputs may be a mixed bag. Feedback and Time should be OK to patch as a floating input means zero volts, as if nothing is plugged in the jack. Mix is the questionable one, best way to find out is to plug a cable into it with the other end left hanging and see how it reacts.

Thanks for your help. The people at Moog are still moving so I hope to hear from them later today. I did what you recommended with the TS cable. I noticed a reaction on the Feedback and Time jacks and nothing from the Mix jack. I tested a couple of patches on the Voyager with the same result. Maybe I'm doing something weird? I'll let you know what the tech from Moog tells me as soon as I can get a hold of him.

I just picked up my SDs today and have not found that I need to normal the loop out into the loop in on the patchbay. Did you mean that when running the 104 with the switch set to external loop you needed to do so? Just curious.

Also- Has anyone figured out a way to sync the delay to the lfo on the voyager. I tried the square wave out to the rate but it ain't proper.

you need to have a trs cable when using the powered inputs (those that are backprinted with white adn accept a passive pedal) or else you will short the current going out and no further patching with passive devis will be possible.
thus, you will need a stereo patchbay. i thought about getting one but labelling all the little holes and getting all those cables made me give up my idea and instead i just turned all moogerfoogers with their backs against me. easy to patch and you soon get used to twisting knobs upside down.

secondly there is no way of syncing the delay, you must set it manually.
there is also no way of resetting the sequence in the 105 which i think is a shame, a reset input would be very nice.

most of the sockets simply add to the value set with the knob so you can for instance get the phaser into wild self oscillation with resonance at max and adding some more volts (to my joy since i thought that max wasnt max enough). there are some sockets that simply override the knobs but i forgot which and the manuals arent very clear on this.

if you still feel that the range isnt enough ( as in the sweep socket of the 105 imo) you can connect the mod source to the junction of the 251 and then add them via the mixer section of the same unit and patch it from the sum.

Thanks for the reply. i have every mf setup in a trs patbay system. It was expensive but I live in a small place and the cost was less than moving to a place with more room.
With the 105 ypu can half patch with a trs into the tap input and it will sync to the lfo on the voyager. Not a reset but it works. I usually plug the square wave from the 351 (through a mult most often) to it and it works great.

Shame it can't happen with the 104

With the exception of the cv inputs on the murf and the 104 i have been quite successful with the patchbay system. As far as the labelling hell you refer to; I bought a Neutrik patchbay which has a removable faceplate and scanned it and labelled it in photophop which takes no time. If you are interested, I can pass the blank scanned files to you so you could use them. Then you mf's could exist sunnyside up.

well, thanks for your proposal. ill keep it in mind, but actually ive got used to working like this.
i like their backside as well and changing to a patchday would cost me half a days work, at least $100 of gear and then it would take me a week to get used to the new setup

. also i dont like having cables at the back. it makes searching for a bad connnection so tedious, and i allready have my share of that.
