Sub Phatty is another SMT synth. The packed dip IC boards of the Voyager are looking more expensive to manufacture and less reliable compared to SMT. Are we getting closer to either the end of the Voyager or a completely redesigned equivalent?

Getting closer to Voyager discontinued with Sub Phatty?

Out sourced oversea's
slap a Moog sticker on it sell the Name not the product?
That be the dark voice of marketing to engineering
"how can we build it faster cheaper bump the profit margin's? come on fellow's help me out here"
Build if fast sell it cheap milk the name for all it's worth
I personally believe Bog Moog was the last giant of Yankee ingenuity
One of a kind ,of the golden Moon shot engineering age
I suppose the folk's at Moog have worked hard to get thing's going who's say's they don't have the right to cash in.
I just think it's a bit sad is all in the rise and fall

Re: Getting closer to Voyager discontinued with Sub Phatty?
I don't think they will dc the Voyager, it is their flagship synth and is about as perfect as it needs to be. It may very well be a synth that has ushered in this current new age of analog that we are seeing slowly bloom.
I do think that there are always ways that the OpSys can be improved. Like further expanding the memory or adding features like an arpeggiator/sequencer or updating the processing speed. Or making the pot mapping and source/destinations totally customizable. They should add the mod buss amounts as a destination for instance. They could also make a change like when the glide switch is off, use the glide knob to switch between filter poles to add the filter poles to the front panel. Stuff like that.

These are all brilliant ideas, EricK. I especially love the idea of the glide knob controlling filter poles.
Hooshirn, I wouldn't get too "doom and gloom" about Moog's future just yet. I think it's cool that they are offering top shelf stuff while also making something that more people can afford that has the moog ladder filter and also has some forward thinking architecture. I love nice knobs as much as the next guy, but I also love having the option of getting something that sounds incredible without having to commit to the costliness of every single bell and whistle available.

Re: Getting closer to Voyager discontinued with Sub Phatty?
Are the current Voyager PCBs make in USA? That part is already contracted out, so if you want to complain about loss of manufacturing in USA, it has already happened at Moog.
