Moog Voyager OS stuck sound

Post by mrfusion » Thu Feb 23, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi,
I've got a serious problem. I begin to understand that I probably need to have a pro look at the synth.

The problem is that for some time now, when I turn on the Voyager it generates a constant tone. It responds to tweaking but I cannot play on the keys and no switch turning will make the sound stop! I have nothing connected except for the L/R outputs. And believe me when I say I have tried every knob and switch available on the outside of the VOS. I did however try to connect my Saffire Pro40 to CV using the Expert Sleepers Silent Way plugin

Any ideas what could be wrong? Is there any reset button/switch inside it that can do the trick of getting it back to a regular functioning VOS?

Thanks in advance!
Nicolas

If the pitch doesn't change when playing different keys, and if flipping all the oscillators switches to "off" in the mixer section doesn't even stop the sound, I'm afraid this looks bad. :(

Is it still under warranty ? Probably not, but still, maybe an e-mail to friendly Moog support could guide you on what to do next ?

edit: there are no "reset" switch inside an Old School model, since this is an (almost) all analog electronic machine. Only the scanning of the keyboard keys is digital, but is quickly converted to analog before going into the panel. I'm not aware of any "reset" switch or otherwise on that small digital board either...

Since it's not a firmware issue, obviously, it sounds like a dead short somewhere in the oscillator section. Or a bad solder joint, or some other thing. Could also be an internal ground issue. Definitely, it needs a tech to look at it. :(

Hi,

It actually may be afirmware issue. My OS had recently an issue that it didn't make any pitced sound, just a low "motorboating" moan. It turned out that the microcontroller doing the keyboard scan had stuck. Rebooting didn't help.. A new version of the controller firmware was installed and everything has been fine since that. Factory was all supportive providing the new firmware file.

So, maybe you should contact a tech..

If it is a keyboard scanner issue, you can fixed that yourself once they send you the card, but if that was the issue you would get very low clicks and no pitches.
