Taurus 2 pedals with Source
Hey there, new to the forum. Recently acquired a Moog Source and was wondering if I could use Taurus 2 pedals with them. The Taurus have a 5 pin connector that says Remote Keyboard, and the Source has a connector labelled Sync. Anyone know if I can use the Taurus 2 pedals to control the Source? Would I need to use the CV/Gate on the Source? Thanks!
Re: Taurus 2 pedals with Source
Nope doesn't work that way.
There *WAS* a factory modification that allowed you to control the Source from the Taurus II - factory service bulletin #853B. I did this years ago and it worked great. I'll upload the documents later.
You could use the CV input but it has three drawbacks: single trigger only, the CV isn't processed by the glide processor, and the filter keyboard tracking doesn't work on it.

Hmm, thanks MC. Google searching that factory service bulletin I came up with this link:
http://www.retrosynth.com/~analoguedieh ... og_source/
"Another cool modification is modifying the Taurus II controller to control the Source remotely, described in factory service bulletin #853B. The Taurus II controller is strictly a bass pedal controller only with no internal synthesizer circuitry - it has CV and trigger outputs only. The reason I did this was when I routed the Taurus II control outputs to the CV/trigger inputs on the rear panel of the Source, you cannot get multiple trigger and the CV input is not processed by the glide processor. This modification corrects that. I used the Taurus II/Source combination to great effect for many years, and Mike Rutherford of Genesis adopted the Taurus II/Source system in the last years of the band. You can catch glimpses of the Taurus/Source in their 1992 Genesis Live video (not sure it ever got released on DVD)."
So it is a modification for the Tarus II pedals, not the Source itself? Would love to see the factory service bulletin, as I could probably get my local synth repair guy to do the mod.
Thanks!

Yup that's my page
I scanned the 853B service bulletin, you can find them on that page

Re: Taurus 2 pedals with Source
I happen to own Mike's Taurus II pedals and would be happy to provide photos inside and out it that would be of any use.

Re: Taurus 2 pedals with Source
Yep those are them.
Unfortunately my tech believes you need the later version Source (models serial #3180 and higher) with the five pin Roland DIN sync interface, or an early version with the upgrade mod, to do the modification work with the Taurus. Unfortunately mine is an early version without upgrade mod.

Find yourself a new tech because he is wrong. The T2/Source interface does not need the Roland DIN sync interface.
