Q on shaping using Filt Env.

Post by widdershins » Thu Aug 04, 2011 12:10 pm

Hi guys.

I'm making a patch and I'd like one of my modulations to decrease in intensity to zero over the course of (say) 1.5 secs. The filter envelope isn't being used to modulate the filter (0 "amount" set). So, I set up the filter envelope with zero attack, 1.5 secs of decay and 0 sustain, and I've set the shaping on the mod bus to Filt. Env.

I expected this to create an intense modulation at the attack, which fades out with the filter env decay. However, from what I can hear, the shaping can't go the whole depth of the amount? Plus, unfortunately, the shaping appears to have no effect when the amount is at 0.

Am I correct in thinking this? If so, is there a workaround I can use? If not, is this something that could be achieved with the VX-351? Cheers,

T

What are you trying to modulate, if not the filter?

Do you need to set the env. destination to somewhere else?

Sorry, but what else did you expect? The modulation amount in the mod buses (the lowest pot) is the overall amount AFTER the shaping. The diagram in the manual clearly shows this.
What mod bus are you using? If it is the left one, you need to set the mod wheel to max, as the mod wheel is hard wired to set the amount of modulation even after the amount knob in the mod bus. So the mod bus amount is the max setting. And the mod wheel allows you to set the modulation from zero to the set max amount. And all this is first shaped by the shaping source, here the Filter envelope.
If the amount is still to low, you might use the other mod bus in parallel. Be sure to use a max pedal in, or no pedal connected at all for max amount on this bus.

And be aware, that the envelopes decays are exponential. So the modulation set by the shaping is way less then the half after half of the set decay amount.
keep on turning these Moog knobs
