Phatty Loader fails to open during 3.1 update

I am having a problem loading it to my LP stage 1. Stage 1 seemed to be fine and I went to open the Phatty Loader but it won't open. So, I am stuck with the LP saying Please Send Firmware. I tried to turn LP off and on but this doesn't work. All stages seemed to work fine so I am not sure why the Phatty Loader does not open. Any ideas?

Which operating system are you trying to open the Phatty Loader on—a Windows variant or Mac OS X?

OSX. I recieved an email from tech but I already tried all of the things recommended.

What version of OSX and what model of Mac? Intel or PowerPC?
PhattyLoader definitely won't run on OSX lower than 10.4 and I have heard mixed results about 10.4...
The documentation states compatibility with OSX 10.5 and above. I know it works fine on my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.7.

It is a Mac Pro with 10.4. The last update before 10.5 I think.

Ok. I tried to load on my laptop and the Phatty Loader actually works. Unfortunantly for me, the Phatty isn't working. I tried going thru from the beginning and nothing. Too bad I didn't use my macbook the first go as the problem in the beginning was the Phatty Loader. Really is a bummer but I will get it going soon I hope.

If you explain more about your setup, I'm sure we can figure it out.
First thing, be sure to turn the power off/on again on the Phatty and close/reopen PhattyLoader if you have a failed update attempt, to make sure you are starting fresh each time.

You don't need to (and can't) start the process from the very beginning; you just need to pick up where you left off. Turn on the Phatty, hook up Midi, launch the PhattyLoader and configure it if needed, then click Update Firmware to send the update.

How is MIDI getting from the Macbook with 10.6, to your LP? If you have an LP Stage 1 I assume you need some kind of DIN MIDI interface. Make sure you have its latest drivers installed on the 10.6 Macbook.
Make sure that MIDI interface is selected as the 'device' in PhattyLoader, and that a MIDI cable is connected properly to the Phatty.

Also in PhattyLoader go to the Timing menu and set 128bytes (half), 500ms(slow) as your settings, before you click Update Firmware.

If you do all this, do you see any kind of indication on the Phatty LCD screen that it is receiving data?
You should see a number of "records" being counted up on the screen.

If you don't see anything on the screen, MIDI is not getting to the Phatty.

LP Boot 1.1 checksum failure erasing flash then it flashes UPDATE FAILED several times. Then, when all stops flashing and Phatty loader stops sending the LP says, Send Firmware.
I am using M audio 2626 now and all midi works. Drivers on Profire were updated not long ago as well.

sounds like it's getting some MIDI traffic coming in. Unplug all MIDI from the LP and turn the power off/on. Does it still flash UPDATE FAILED several times on boot-up when no MIDI is connected?

Did you upgrade your LP to have USB by any chance?

I have rebooted unplugged etc etc. Never had to jump thru so many hoops.

Oh, It still has original midi without USB. It also was running the 2.xx so it has been updated before just not lately.

This means there is a problem sending data out from your computer. The data is getting corrupted.
I doubt very much that it's a problem with the Phatty hardware as it accepted previous updates OK.

I assume you've tried to use both of the MIDI interfaces you mentioned?

At this point I'd suggest you try a different computer altogether... maybe you have access to a Windows computer somewhere in your life and you could try the PC version of PhattyLoader? I think your LP is fine and will come back on line as soon as you can get the new firmware to it without transmission errors. Sorry for all the trouble!

edit: I know it's even more inconvenient, but keep in mind we can always do this update here at the Moog factory. If you are interested, we could do some other things to the synth while it is here, like improve the sound quality, add USB MIDI, add CV output.. black side panels... we have a lot of options now in our custom shop.

I was able to get it to work. I ended up changing the packet size to 128 and the timing to 500 and that seemed to do it. Thanks for the help guys!
