Substitute for MF-104

Post by kilgoretrout » Tue Jan 18, 2005 5:20 pm

I have the 101, 102 and 103 pedals, the 251 and 351 controllers and a Voyager signature edition. I really want a couple of MF-104s but finding one is harder than finding inicorn horns. Do you have any suggestions as to what is another decent analog delay that allows external modulation?

By the way, I am in favor of Moog making many more modular pieces. VCAs, EGs, LFOs... While my Voyager can do all of this stuff, I want something that is easy to use for my guitar rig. My Voyager is in a rack in my studio.

Thanks.

You could try the Blacet Time Machine. It's 2 seconds and you can use it with CV signal.

sir_dss,

With a modular piece like that what kind of power supply can you use? I was looking at these but don't understand the power specs.

Thanks

kilgoretrout,

I was able to find a MF-104 on Ebay. I got it about 6 months ago. I think you can set up a search on Ebay specifically for the MF-104. I've also read posts about the possibility of a new MF delay being released. If you contact Moog, I'm sure they can tell you if a new delay is planned.

...well the simple thing is to get the Blacet +/-15v power supply.

There are a bunch of other Blacet modules that would work great with the MoogerFoogers.

The Binary Zone is a amazing quazi sequencer that you could hook up to the MF-101 to sequence the filter frequency. It also has a gate out that could turn it into a auto filter, kinda like a Super Zvex Seek Wah. And if you cranked the Resonance on the MF-101 sending the BZ to the frequency cv on the 101 you can get it to play little melodys. I don't think the 101 has 1v/Octive so they would be kinda in tune. But a rad start to a semi modular system.

No... I have no connection to Blacet. Only a small system with the Time Machine, Binary Zone, 2 Dark Star Chaos, Mini Wave, and the I/O. I building a MOTM system and making the Blacet formated to MOTM ie 1/4" jacks, larger panel, etc...

What are the modulation capabilities on the Blacet?

Ideally, I want to use the delay as a delay (duh), chorus, flanger and anything else you can do with a delay. Can you modulate the Blacet comparably to the 104?

By the way, I recieved an email from a seller interested in selling his. There is also one on eBay right now, but it is in the UK.

For those interested, my gear list (drum roll please)
Alesis Andromeda 6
Waldorf Wave
Waldorf Q
Memorymoog (LAMM)
Voyager signature
Prophet 10
Prophet 5
Prophet VS
Roland MKS80 (super jupiter + programmer)
Roland JD800
Roland SH 101
Roland JP8080
ARP 2600 (with moog ladder filter)
Oberheim 4 Voice
Oberheim Xpander
Elka Synthex
Nord Modular
about 35 guitars + 1 Ztar
about 10 amps
Sonar 4 (switched from SX)
Mackie D8B
And other things

You can but it does take a basic understanding of synthisis. Like that your need to run a triangle wave LFO signal into a CV mixer to the delay time of the Time Machine. Then again it does have an built in LFO in it.

The TM is a bit more lo fi and rougher. But warm. You can get more sorts of flange sounds from the TM too since the minimum delay time is shorter on the TM thatn the 104.

Like I said the TM does really degrade after about 800ms. Maybe the 104 would sound as rough if you increased the delay time???
