Problems with triggering when sequencing

Post by Seb » Thu Jan 13, 2005 12:12 pm

Hello dear moogfriends!

I would be really happy if anyone could help me with a little problem I have with my Voyager.

When I'm sequencing the voyager it always trigger on the first note and doesn't retrigger the next note if not the first one is taken away first. I've tried all different trigger modes and that makes no difference. I have no problem when I'm playing live at the keyboard ... so when I'm recording a midi sequence I have to edit all recorded notes so they don't "go over eachother". This is really anoying since I can't use many possible featuers like legato or glide. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

I use Mac/Logic

When you are running your sequence loop, is it that only the first note is triggered, and no others? Or is is that the second note is skipped? And is it the same pattern of skips each time through?

I don't use Logic, I use Cubase, but are you sure you're using the correct asio driver? Is your attack time short enough?

As far as notes going over each other, Cubase offers a function to remove midi note overlap. Perhaps Logic does as well. Since the MMV is of course monophonic, only one of the notes will be heard, depending on which you have selected in the MMV's software.

You could add glide by drawing more glide before the notes you want to affect. The legato could be done in a similar manner by fire notes around the glide. I don't know just some ideas.

Good luck.

Seb,

Let me start by saying that son kite is my favourite band: thank you for your beautiful music .

As far as your problem is concerned, my voyager definitely always retriggers in Edit/Trigger Modes/Multi Trigger mode, regardless of how long the overlap between notes is. If I draw in a pattern with two notes where the first note is 3/16s long with the second note playing 1/16th later for 1/16th of a beat, it will play 3 notes.

In Edit/Trigger Modes/Single Trigger mode, the voyager never retriggers, regardless of how short the overlap is. However, if the notes are merely touching (and not overlapping) they will sometimes trigger and sometimes not. I think this has to do with the way the sequencer releases notes, though, not the way the voyager is triggering. If I reduce their length by 1/128th of beat then they always trigger.

Then, if glide is on, then it is always on in both modes. There is no fingered or legato mode that I can see. Finally, there is a hardware defect in all voyagers: glide only operates on the oscillator(s), not the filter(s). Apparently there is a hardware mod for this, but I've not had it done.

If this doesn't help you, I suggest that you check Master/MIDI Key Order setting. Fomr the manual: "This function allows multiple Voyagers to work together as a polyphonic synth. Up to 16 Voyagers can be Linked together to create a 16 voice synth. The Value of the MIDI Key Order Number assigns the Voyager to one of 16 voices on the MIDI input. To use this function, select Master Mode / MIDI Key Order and press ENTER. The screen will prompt: “MIDI In Key Order is not active” Use the +/- Buttons to select if this is not active, or 1-16 and confirm by pressing ENTER. If you are using a single Voyager – make sure this feature is not active, especially if using with a MIDI sequencer."

Hope that helps you.
