My Solution to the Slim Phatty Tuning Problems

Post by scotteh » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:45 pm

Well, I've had the Slim Phatty for a couple for weeks now and have been using it exclusively to record a track and I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that tuning will always be a problem. I haven't spent much time experimenting with the "Auto tune" function because I'd rather be making music right now.

But what I've found is that every time I change patches, I have to retune. Literally, every patch is a few cents up or down. And I've been leaving it on (for over a week now) so it's not like it hasn't warmed up yet! So rather than just complaining about it, I just retune. It's a fairly simple thing to do but I made it as easy as possible so I can just turn the knob a bit and get on with playing.

I got out a guitar tuner and found I could wedge it onto the front of my rack. Then I patched the headphone output of the Slim Phatty into the tuner. Before I record I just turn the tuner on and it takes 2 seconds to tune, then turn it off and go back to playing. Works like a charm!

I'm not sure if I can post links in this forum yet but lets try: http://www.flickr.com/photos/scotteh/5310142194/

Hopefully you can just click that and see the picture!
