Fooger on Fooger Sounds

Post by zorbas » Thu Dec 30, 2010 12:14 pm

Greetings,

In an effort to get out of a creative rut and do so without going patch cord crazy, I wanted to poll the audience (that's you) and get some of your favorite Moogerfooger to Moogerfooger connections/settings that you've discovered. I know that I've thrown a few combos together that yielded some blissful sounds but there is strength in numbers and I'd dig hearing what other folks' brainparts have been able to come up with.

Cheers!

101 -> 104z is fun. Crank up the resonance.. it's basically just a sine wave at that point, but sweeping multiple controls (e.g. cutoff frequency and delay time) simultaneously can produce some cool spacey sounds. Some sort of sound like ring modulation that slowly resolves itself, if you are delicate and within certain parameter ranges. You could tack a phaser into the delay loop and maybe a MuRF on the end for more possibilities. ;)

Involves 101, 102, 103
Take square wave lfo out from 102 patch to audio in on 101. Envelope out from 101 to its own resonance control and adjust so that when the env peaks the resonance self oscillates. Lfo out from 103 to cutoff in of 101. Now just patch audio out of 101 to 102, 102 to 103, 103 to amp. Adjust the lfo rates, cutoff and env amounts to taste and tada its kind of a sequenced synth
My modular so far: Q104, Q106 x2, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, Mixer and Mankato playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M x2 ( STEREO!) Volca Beats and Bass, Arturia Beat step

102 and 107 (or 101) compressor. I don't use this often, because the ringmod loses it's ringmod function, but I like the idea.

Audio > 102 > 107
dummy plug (a plug not connected to any thing) or a fixed negative voltage > carrier in
107 env > 102 mix
Adjust the mix of the 102 and the drive of the 107.

A louder output from the 102 causes a higher voltage from the envelope follower which causes a lower volume from the 102 which causes a lower voltage from the envelope follower which causes a higher volume from the 102 which causes a higher voltage from the envelope follower. . .

This patch can also be used to alter the attack of sound, giving a guitar or bass more of a bowed sound. This patch should also work with a 101 replacing the 102 by turning the cutoff down such that no sound is passed, or replacing the 107 for its envelope follower.

Bump for cool patch ideas.

Personally, I enjoy the wide range of effects I get from patching the LFO out on the Ring Mod to the various CV inputs on the LPF!
My setup: Ernie Ball Music Man Sting Ray-5 => MF-107 => MF-101 => MF-103 => MF-102 => Hartke HA-4000 => Hartke Transporter 4x10

These foogers go to 11!

Interesting compressor patch. If I understand it correctly, it should be possible with a single 101 that has been modified to accept separate audio & envelope signals, if you can mult the audio and feed both inputs.

I don't have a 101, so i can't be sure, but I think it might work if you mult the output and feed one to the envelope input and the other to the next place in the signal chain. The input would be whatever you want to plug into it. This patch needs the envelope to feedback somewhere.
