CV to MIDI - Voyager XL

Post by red » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:27 pm

During some experiments with the possibilities of the Modular Patch Panel I observed that four CV inputs convert the CV signal to a MIDI Control Message:

[CV] -----------------> [MIDI]

ENV GATE: Control 1 Hold Pedal 0
Control 1 Hold Pedal 127

ENV RELEASE: Control 1 Hold Pedal 127
Control 1 Hold Pedal 0

MOD MOD 1: Control 1 Breath Control (coarse) 127
Control 1 Breath Control (fine) 120
Control 1 Breath Control (coarse) 127
Control 1 Breath Control (fine) 20

MOD MOD 2: Control 1 Foot Control (coarse) 127
Control 1 Foot Control (fine) 124
Control 1 Foot Control (coarse) 0
Control 1 Foot Control (fine) 0

Is this a known implementation? I never heard about it. I assume that this could be interesting in some way...

OK, in the manual the configuration of the CV/MIDI setup for ENV GATE is described (menu MASTER >>> MIDI Ext. Gate - you can select the MIDI control number).

But for the other three I found nothing...

Anyone?

I have no idea how you found this... though I am interested!

So what is on offer for us? little over my head

I was playing with some patches - pure analog - then I noticed a red LED is flickering on my MIDI patchbay... I then routed the MIDI signal to my MIDI monitor... In the follow I tried all CV inputs and found in total the four named CV-MIDI converters.

What's the use? e.g. I tried some weird LFO forms sending to my Waldorf Microwave - synched to some percussive FM sounds on the XL... try it :D

Thanks for shearing, I still don't know how I would pull this off with my set up, but dose sound like allot of fun! what patch bay are you using?

I have midi to CV converter but not the reverse...

Cheers

My patchbay is an old Roland A-880 MIDI patcher / mixer... works like new - and very easy to use!

Thanks for finding this! I'm going to try hooking up an Etherwave Plus CV to these for Theremin to MIDI control!

I just confirmed Mod 1 and Mod 2 sending MIDI CC's on my Voyager Electric Blue.
Mod 1 sends Breath Control (CC 2) and Mod 2 sends Pedal (CC 4).

They actually send out more data as 14 bit MIDI CC's:
MOD1 sends CC # 2 MSB and CC # 34 LSB
MOD2 sends CC # 4 MSB and CC # 36 LSB

If in doubt, just try to use the MSB CC numbers :)
