Firmware 1.03
Firmware 1.03
I`ve checked my LP Tribute and it`s actually 1.02 and not 1.03 - 1.03 is no longer on the Moog site for download and 3.1 won`t load in until I get the EPROM upgrade .. 1.03 adds important stuff such as Autotune so would like the file . could anyone direct me to where it is ..
thanks

Re: Firmware 1.03
I've got v1.04 for the Tribute in addition to the .pdf doc if you are interested.
To be honest though, I'm not sure if it's the 'official' release or just one that I was testing at the time so best to wait for Amos to reply.
I've subsequently upgraded my TE to v2 hardware and am running a modern version of v3 code now. If you decide you want it anyway, drop me a PM with your email address and I will gladly fwd with caveat that I can't vouch for stability. I don't recall having any issues with the older code, they were making very small changes at the time and it was nothing fancy but I'm getting up there in years to my memory is not the best : )

Re: Firmware 1.03
Thanks a lot ! . I`ve contacted Moog about the EEPROM but have yet to hear back- I also used to fix synths of all kinds including EPROM Upgrades so shouldn`t have an issue replacing it even if its surface mounted ..EMwhite wrote:I've got v1.04 for the Tribute in addition to the .pdf doc if you are interested.

If it is surface mounted I doubt they`ll sell me one so will need the firmware , I`ve not heard of 1.04 anywhere , it`ll be intertesting to hear what Amos says. also why they took the earlier firmwares down from the site despite most tributes and stage 1s likely to running the OS they came with (most synth players don`t even think of Firmware so there`ll be a lot of 1.02s lke mine out there) . I have the 1.03 update PDFs .. thanks again

Re: Firmware 1.03
1.04 installed (thanks) and the Synth re-calibrated.. will wait to see what Amos can suggest about the EEPROM but to be honest, V1.04 adds all the Pivotal stuff - the Autotune & Oscillator calibration being the real important ones but adds Routing, noise from panel fix (though this one doesn`t seem to have the issue anyway), velocity controled filter, extra setup stuff in the master menu etc. all 2.0/3.1 seem to add are midi and arpeggiator related things ..

Re: Firmware 1.03
Just a quick reply.
As I mentioned (I think), the Phatty doesn't have code in EPROM; the code I sent you is stored in flash within the microcontroller. There is a bit of what I'll call 'executive' code that basically gets the hardware up off the ground to the point where the code executes. In later versions of OS (2+ I think), the process changes slightly to the extent that new OS is only loaded once in maint mode.
I think what you are calling an eeprom is actually the 2.x upgrade. I had my Tribute upgraded.
The diff between the Tribute and Stage editions is memory and some low level hardware differences (tuning on CV in for one), and USB.
So in order to get Tribute to run 2.x code or newer, you'll need more memory which is certainly a hardware upgrade. Moog charges a modest fee for this and I highly recommend having it done. I seem to recall that you are EMEA based so maybe there is a local (to you) reseller that is authorized to perform such a service from Moog. Check with them.

Re: Firmware 1.03
Thanks again for the info
the other difference between the Stages and the Tribute from what I`ve read is that the Trib has all the controls under Analog control (or whatever its called) whereas the Stages have only a few , this would explain why tribs use different firmware ..
Moog may offer the upgrade for a very sensible fee but who knows what that would cost here in the UK , there not being a "Moog UK" . HHB (the Uk Distributors) from what I read do the service upgrades and charged someone £165 UK to update a Stage-1 (not a Tribute) to V3.0 and give it a once over, they billed them for 2 Hours labour . Errrm , a few midi features and an Arpeggiator isn`t worth it.. the Jump from 1.02 to 1.03 (or 4) was the biggie I needed (I`m really glad you kept the file
), the Calibration page and Autotune is essential, 1.02 didn't even have any form of reference to fine tune to (you use a guitar tuner) , even a 1972 Mini has an A440 switch ...
To be honest, the Moog I really wanted was the Old School (Couldn`t find a used one at a decent price at the time) and that doesn`t even have memories let alone toys like arpeggiators

Re: Firmware 1.03
I think the Noise and S+H was added as another modulation source and the ability to send Midi clock. But for me, that's basically the end of the useful feature set.
I have an Oberheim cyclone so the Arp that is built into the Phatty doesn't do anything for me and the alternate tuning doesn't either. Keep your Phatty at 1.x, it's a classic and far less menu diving : )
I have an Old School and like it alot. Mine is pimped out with a white wash finish, flashing blue LEDs in the LHC and on the panel, and has the legato/retrig controller added to the LHC. Don't lose hope, they pop up on eBay and elsewhere from time to time; and usually well below the $2,200 that I paid (before dumping another $600 into it!!). But to me it's way more playable than the Voyager and when I turn it back on, it's exactly where it was when I turned it off : )

Re: Firmware 1.03
Agreed, the rest is trimmings - V1.04 has the noise source, S&H too.. I just wish it could store the filter type along with the preset (the Stage-II can`t either from what I gather)EMwhite wrote:I think the Noise and S+H was added as another modulation source and the ability to send Midi clock. I`ve not seen a Cyclone in years ! . I had the Strummer which was a really unique device, really worked well with the Yamaha VL1 modelling synth (had one of those years ago too)I have an Oberheim cyclone so the Arp that is built into the Phatty doesn't do anything for me and the alternate tuning doesn't either. Yep, I saw it as the True Minimoog model E whereas the actual Voyager a new synth entirely. I wish moog wouldn`t use such awful names ....... "Little Phatty" was as bad as they could have chosen , even Source-II or Prodigy II would have been better . the OS would have been better being called the "Classic" or Model-E. the Voyager shoud be just that without the Minimoog label (and the XL is so far from "Mini" it`s unreal) .I have an Old School and like it alot. My ideal would be a version with just with patch memories and simple midi..

I have a Stage I upgraded (for the most part) to a Stage II. It stores the filter type just fine per preset.Adam-T wrote:Agreed, the rest is trimmings - V1.04 has the noise source, S&H too.. Re: Firmware 1.03
I`ll have to try that then, that`s the problem with reading stuff on the Web, it`s so varied. maybe they meant Stage-1 and the OS was earlier and later ones do it? . I noticed that each preset remembers the glide type (legato or not etc) which it didn`t previously , it`ll be good if it remembers filter type too , 2 pole is so handy for whiteface Odyssey type sounds

Re: Firmware 1.03
That could be. I bought my unit with OS 1.03C pre-loaded, and got nearly every OS upgrade installed as they came out. It's quite possible stored filter settings were introduced in OS 2.00, as I'd say 90% of the features were added in 2.00.Adam-T wrote:I`ll have to try that then, that`s the problem with reading stuff on the Web, it`s so varied. maybe they meant Stage-1 and the OS was earlier and later ones do it?

Just tested it, Wow, it does it with Tribute 1.04 as well !! . fabulous, can store those hi-resonance Odyssey-alike 2 pole patches now ! .....That could be. I'm updating from 1.03 to 1.04 right now and could really use the .pdf file...Having a hard time remembering how I did this last time. Thanks!
