Question for Moog owners.
Re: Question for Moog owners.
Hmm, time to read through both manuals extensively it seems. Old School seems to offer everything I'd want. MIDI, touch pad, and patch memories could live without. Shame they made it a limited run, it's a good idea. You just want the sound, without all the other stuff. Makes getting a Voyager more affordable, should've kept it.
Re: Question for Moog owners.
Imagine how stupid I felt when they came out with it, just after I bought my LP and 'Foogers.

Minitaur, CP-251, EHX #1 Echo, EHX Space Drums/Crash Pads, QSC GX-3, Pyramid stereo power amp, Miracle Pianos, Walking Stick ribbon controller, Synthutron.com, 1983 Hammond organ, dot com modular.
Re: Question for Moog owners.
Imagine that'd be frustrating. I just wish they would've kept it... I can't remember exactly how much the OS originally sold for, but I remember it being a good bit less than the Performer even. Who knows, maybe they'll re-lease it. Got done looking browsing the manual, one thing I noticed is that on the Performer you can set how many poles the filter has. Which, most likely will end up with a Performer anyway. Seeing that the OS is ironically more expensive at times.
Re: Question for Moog owners.
They've already re-released the OS once. Maybe twice. I don't quite recall. I doubt they will do so again. You can set the number of filter poles on the LP too.

Re: Question for Moog owners.
From looking at feeBay, could pick up a Little Phatty and CP-251 for around $1,100. Going to attempt selling the car. Maybe someone will want to trade a MiniMoog for it, make things easy on me for once.

Re: Question for Moog owners.
May I post a counter-trend idea?
It is a totally biased and personal point of view, but it could maybe help our friend.
I was an early model d adopter (sold it years ago), then I bought and kept for some months a voyager, but I later sold it,
and now I bought a slim phatty.
I'd rather use that than the voyager.
Here's the rationale:
a) if your pockets are infinitely deep, and your setup must never move, and you have infinite space... buy a voyager. Stop.
Or: buy a voyager and a model D. Make that two. Stop.
Such is the quality and the magic of one.
Nothing sounds like one.
But:
b) if your budget and rig have physical limitations, you have two choices:
b/1) you will need the moog sound every day, in every gig, in every song
b/2) you like different sounds as well [this is my case]
In the latter case, the voyager is a demanding mistress.
Its sound takes a lot of "space", it heavily conditions your palette. It is not the kind of synth you'll be able to keep in the background for some time if you decide you'd rather use different timbres for some time.
If you gig live, and if your pockets are not infinitely deep, leaving a voyager in the background while still owning it and still carrying it around is a tough choice.
This is why I gave up the voyager. I freed a lot of money and a lot on space in my rig, for a couple of different machines, and for a very efficient masterkeyboard (the voyager is not a heavy-load master, and anyway using it just as a controller is heart-breaking
I felt very dumb when I played a sampler solo on the voyager
I am afraid the audience was as well)
On the other hand, you can't live without "the" moog sound.
This is why I bought the slim phatty.
I don't ask a lot out of it. I don't care about arpegiators, I don't fiddle live with knobs, I just buold my patches, dial in the sound I want, and solo.
I'll just use three spaces in my rack, and have "real moog" in my palette. At a moderate price, which won't force me to give up using obie sounds, arp sounds, prophet sounds, digital sounds.
So, I love the moog sound, but chosing the phatty rather after having tasted the voyager was rational for me.
The voyager is mind-numbing.
If you buy it, you will spend the nights with it for a months, and will write songs around it.
It is a pleasure to play with, to listen to and to watch at.
Then you take a step back, listen to your music, and sometimes say: "I need that guy to step back, other actors have to say their lines too, or the plot won't go on".
"The guy" is fat. Either you have a room to lock him in for some time, OR your will have second thoughts.

Very interesting point of view. Have a lot to think about. I hate having to think about things, I'm terrible with decision making.
If I can get the car sold, I'll have enough for the Voyager. Ever since day one, have always wanted a MiniMoog. Little Phatty with CP-251 would also be good. Lots to sleep on, which is bad considering I don't get much sleep.

then that reduces the choice to one, maybe two.Box wrote: If I can get the car sold, I'll have enough for the Voyager. Ever since day one, have always wanted a MiniMoog.
i'd go for a nice serial2000-4000 well serviced minimoog model-d.
it'll be 50-100% more expensive then the voyager, less possibilities, but at last you'll get less sleep due to tweaking .
whenever bored, sell it for the same price , go for the voyager , and long for it again...( but the voyager will ease your sadness easily too)
Re: Question for Moog owners.
Cheapest I've seen a Model D is for around $3,000 on feeBay. Not even asking that much for the car.

Re: Question for Moog owners.
when he's one as described , it's a good price. you'll be able to sell it for that too.
i wonder if you should also look for that price with b.e. elco's changed, might be even higher.
as i said 50-100% more expensive as the voyager.
i wouldn't go for a backlighted type, not my style and more expensive, but for the large memory+ aftertouch upgrade .

Re: Question for Moog owners.
Yeah, kind of ruled out the backlit ones. Would be cool, until the lights start to die. Just get a Performer and the lamp, call it a day.
Any who, I'm going away for the weekend. Going to get the car ready for sale(it's with my dad). Will be back Sunday night.

Re: Question for Moog owners.
well the Moog forum will be eagerly awaiting your return, haha! seriously, these guys get excited on new purchases/puchasers, as you have seen from the past 4 pages... when I say "nerd alert", I mean it in the most positive way...

yeah, I received the phatty yesterday, I opened the box (most of all, I was anxious for the rack ears: lack of them would have seriously messed up the weekend

and saw the pocket protector.
I had to check it twice: I couldn't believe it!
Not a bumper sticker, not a USB cable: no! A pocket protector!
Me? No way! No effing way!
In immediate retaliation, I planned havving my phatty painted camouflage.
