Is it publicly known how many Voyager XLs have been sold?

Post by Cpt Beardheart » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:58 am

I just got mine last week, and I noticed the serial number seems to indicate that it is the 300-somethingth one made (assuming the serial numbers increment by one with each synth built). I was wondering if that is true. It seems like they would have sold more than a few hundred of them. Although I guess it has only been in production for a couple of years, maybe they only sell a couple hundred a year or something.

Not really my business, I'm just curious if there is any reliable word on how many of these things are floating around out there.

That sounds like a fair amount of production. I remember that the XL was released right around Moogfest in 2010 and they presented Mark & Gerry with one when they were brandy new. I wouldn't be surprised if they only spin up production to make small batches at a time.

Another question would be, how many have been sold (vs. being held at retailers). But even with that, one produced every day (counting working days across roughly 16 months) is quite good especially considering cost. If I had to guess prior to reading your mail I would have said that it was a limited edition run of 100 units).

Maybe somebody should start a "post your XL serial number thread" and see what pops up.

Hi
I purchased an XL last week and my serial number is below 10.

Also, the preset names on the xl are different to the list of presets in the manual

Regards
Billy

I will be buying one on Monday... just made my mind up and have not long got of the phone to the retailer I was speaking to, I said I would stew over it over the weekend but pretty much knew as I hung the phone up I wanted it, as long as its not a demo model I am all over it! (i have just had a baby boy this will be the last nice piece of gear I buy for a while, so I want a virgin lol) 3 more sleeps... :D

I am in Australia

If its a deal cruncher I will post up my serial number...

A XL sub forum category or a XL sticky would be gold, as I am sure will be asking lots of modulation / patching questions

vibes

That was fast... I got my big Minimoog today :D

The XL is very very well built and it sounds amazingly. And there is a lot to learn about all the switches and knobs...

Where can I find the serial number? (in the delivery papers is # 220 noted...)

Enjoy your XL

I said the same"its huge "
I'm in melb, and had mine for a few months.
The patching is great, I was a bit baffled when I read the manual but its easy to understand now.
I'll post a patch
Dont you like the feeling when you grab all the patch leads and pull them out after creating a cool patch.

My SN is on the back of the panel, in the lower left hand corner. It's kind of hard to see unless the control panel is vertical.

Mine is lower than 10 and recently purchased, wonder if they are counting down?

Models are randomly send around the world to retailers for resale. And as such, serial numbers will not follow any order depending on when and where the synth was bought.

They should be, however, indicative of the total number of units produced up to that point.

Only Moog Music could tell us how many were made, up to today, and how many more they forecast to produce. But I don't think it is intended as a limited production run, like the Old School was from the start.(long discontinued even though there are still some left unsold in some retail and online stores).
