controling RME with Lemur
controling RME with Lemur
i'd like to build a Lemur template to control some of the RME menu entries, eg Release, Keyboard Modes, Trigger Modes... to control that with my iPad.
first, does anybody already have a solution for that?
i guess not, after a little search on the internets.
now i think it must be possible to do it, since Librarian only communicates with the RME using MIDI as far as i know. so it could be cool to first start with a list of MIDI commands sent by Librarian.
does anyone know where to find that?
would it be possible to find it manually?
well, if someone has input or is interested in achieveing this, feel free to contribute (i don't have Librarian).
i think it would be really cool to control the menus with a touchscreen instead of diving into menus with tiny little buttons....

Here's mine for the Voyager, and I'm looking for an RME owner to give it a go

Re: controling RME with Lemur
I've got nothing agains't progress and innovations, and good looking tools like this to control a virtual (or real) synth from an iPad.
But, I wonder, isn't it missing the point somewhat ?
Isn't part of the joys of analog synths, the "hands-on" experience ? The satisfactory tactile feel of the quality knobs, and their high level of precision (especially to detune two or more oscillators), the instantaneous access to any switch or knob just by reaching and grabbing it... Isn't that what a Moog Voyager (RME, OS, EB, or any other variants) is all about, aside from the fabulous sound of course ?
Maybe I'm old school, but I like tweaking real knobs and switches. But I also love my iPad, too, with things like the Filtatron, and Animoog apps!

No, I don't think you're missing any points.
I feel just the same. If I wanted a computer-controlled synth I would have bought Arturia.
The point of the iPad is simple. Not all music I play is hands-on. Sequencing is a bit part of what I do and why I have this particular synth. When its sitting there droning away with a 25-minute evolving sequence running, it's great to use the physics capabilities of Lemur to start slow filter and LFO ping pong while you're recording. It's another aspect to the Voyager's control - not a replacement.
The RME is probably a different animal here, as I could imagine that like my own Slim Phatty - many are rack mounted at the back of the studio. A remote control like this is great in these circumstances.

Re: controling RME with Lemur
One thing to note: the RME doesn't have an XY pad, but does support the CV/midi for XY...so having an XYPad on the iPad (or whatever) does allow the user of an RME functionality it was lacking. So that's great!
