Hi Kevin,

That's cool. Did that mod work with the filter, too?

Also, did you try to modify the Opus to include a Portamento control? From what I understand, it can function in solo mode, but lacks portamento. Is this a "misnomer?"

Yeah, it went through the filter too.

No way to add portamento though.
Can't be done.

It's divide-down organ technology, not vco based.

I suppose dedicated polyphonics aren't really meant to function like monosynths. Oh well. I'll still enjoy having it, when finally get into the game.

I saw your wish list. Suggestion, scratch the Arp Omni off that list. Junk. If you want the Solina sound, get a Solina. Arp made some changes to the board from the Solina that they put in the Omni, and its not exactly the same thing. Anyway, Omni's are notorious for bad power supplies. I have an Omni II sitting in my music room with a bad power supply, and its just not worth fixing. Both from a musical or financial perspective. JUNK.

seems like eBay is littered with scam artist as there is a midimoog fs with no bidders as the seller has no feed back,

Hello again, to all the Opus advocates: I was in a blind fever to get my hands on one but my desire faded away becuase I couldn't find sound clips for them ANYWHERE!!! The closest I found was these samples of one note held for about 1 second but that didn't really do it justice. They look so great and I must have read every scrap of info I could find (including the entire manual) but still pictures and words aren't enough. If anyone knows a site that has clips of one I'd be eternally greatful if you could let me know.

I am still looking for my first synth, which will ideally be analog and be able to create that thick bass sound as well as some effects. Has anyone ever owned or operated one of the following, and if so how do they sound?

1- Sequential Circuits Prophet 600- (Pro-5's are waaaay out of my league and pro-one's are pretty expensive and the keyboard reviews make me nervous)

2-OB 8 - can these get that "Oberheim" sound, they seem versatile to me and I'm considering putting off getting a synth until I could afford one of these (which seem to go for the same price as much smaller moogs)....Also I've heard some sound clips of an OB1, could the OB-8 make these kind of sounds or should I look elsewhere? Can it do Bass well?

3-Korg MS2000 - These seem to be somewhat affordable and I've heard they are quite versatile...remember I've never owned a synth before so if it doesn't nail the analog sounds perfectly I probably wouldn't know any better. I would still like something that could come close though

I'm sure these questions are pretty basic but any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I understand what you're saying about the OMNI II having a bad power supply. I appreciat your telling me to search for a Solina. Only issue: You can't find them, nowadays! They're so rare and far between that finding one on eBay is like finding Atlantis - nearly.

A Synthi 100? I thought only three of those were produced in all.

The DSI Evolver is a great monosynth for under $400.

The Waldorf Micro Q is another good one for about $250.

The original Nord Lead is not very expensive either.

The Oberheim Matrix 6 takes time to program, but it's a good synth for the price

The SCI Prophet 600 is a good one too.

Lastly, the Roland SH-32 is a good synth with a lot of features for around $250

I would consider all of them budget synths.

The Chroma Polaris is a fun synth, gets nice pads, leads and bass sounds.

I'd have a Juno 106, an Oberhiem OB, Moog Prodigy, Moog Source, Opus 3, Jupiter 4, Korg Polysix, and a Polymoog Keyboard (if it can be described as a budget synth nowadays.)

And why not get a Prophet 600 just for the hell of it!
