Flickering LCD display information when switches /dials used

Hi,

I am considering buying a second hand Voyager Signature edition from a music dealer. When I tested the machine in the shop it was immaculate, however I noticed that when switching some of the oscillators on, the LCD display information would start flickering between different screens erratically - the only way to make it stay on one screen was to touch the touchpad and then it would stay on one screen. Upon releasing the touchpad it would continue to flicker until I switched off the relevant switch.

I understand from another thread on this forum that it is usual for flickering when adjusting dials, however the post did not mention whether this flickering should continue after any adjustments have been made. This unit's screen flickered between alternate screens even when I wasn't touching it.

Does anyone know whether this particular Voyager is displaying a fault or whether this is a normal characteristic of the Voyager? It certainly looks like a fault to me, as the symptoms seem worse than the flickering which is reported to be normal whilst adjusting dials. Could it be that the touchpad is faulty and that is why the flickering stops when I touch it?

It would be great if someone could help with this problem as lack of knowledge is preventing me at present from buying an otherwise excellent condition Voyager.

Definately a fault. My Voyager (Performer) does not do this, nor do any of the Voyagers I've played at music stores (several).

If otherwise working properly, a Signature Edition could be a great buy if the price is right. The display will have to be repaired of course, but also keep in mind that the Sig Eds were the first Voyagers made and there have been some hardware improvements since. A call to the factory could give you an idea of what it might cost to repair the LCD and upgrade the hardware to the current spec.

Worth investigating IMO.

Decided in the end to go for a new machine and opted for a Performer edition with the blue wheel retrofit., as I was offered a £700 discount on it due to the problems the dealer had in locating the stock. Now that's good service! A signature edition would have been nice but would have cost me an extra grand. It's an amazing machine - I've been playing along to my Kraftwerk LPs, trying to replicate the sounds used on Autobahn etc. and I can't wait to get recording my own tracks with it.

I would also support a campaign to get Bob his trademark back in the UK!
