Sawtooth

Post by zerocrossing » Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:45 pm

So, I noticed that the sawtooth sounded really raw and I did some detective work and I noticed that my idea that an actual sawtooth wave was happening midway between the triangle and sawtooth markers on the knob. Not a huge deal, but is this by design or should I do some sort of calibration or something?

On a scope or by ear?

The sharktooth waveforms usually lies about where you are talking. If by ear, I would guess that's what you are hearing.

Sharktooth? I'd never even heard of such an animal. Shark fin... it does look like that.

which sounds like...

as opposed to my ATC-1's sawtooth... (which is what I'm used to)

I didn't grab a pict of it when it was at the exact "sawtooth" part of the indicator, but it didn't look much like a sawtooth at all. (all of these are with the filter wide open) I got curious when I was listening to the raw oscs and it wasn't what I was expecting. I actually really think that part of the Phatty's dial is a "sweet" spot. At least in terms of what I think of as "phatness."

The shark tooth is a tri-saw hybrid as found on the minimoog model D.
