sysex & sharing

Post by cmyk » Thu Jan 12, 2012 6:47 pm

hello all! hopefully you can help me with my qeueries...

i am the proud owner of a moog little phatty seii. i've also recently purchased a dsi mopho & tempest & joined the dsi forum.

on the dsi forum, there are people sharing project/beat/sound files. i was just wondering if the same sort of thing goes on here, with people sharing new sounds.

1) are there sysex files containing different presets available?

also, i am fairly new to using sysex, but so far with both the mopho & tempest, i have successfully been able to load new new sounds on to them. dsi also provided the original sysex files containing the original presets - just in case anything went wrong.

2) can i download the original sysex files of the original little phatty presets?

3) can the new presets be sent to the LP via sysex without the editor?

4) does the LP have the same presets as SP?

to be honest, i haven't really got to grips with the LP yet. whereas i have gelled quickly with the dsi stuff. i'm hoping if i can find some other presets to play around with, then i will start to enjoy it more. i just can't seem to programme any good leads or kicks. :(

here are all of the Phatty sound banks: http://seamslikereality.com/moog/Phatty_Sounds.zip

I did a quick search and found this: http://www.moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopi ... syx#p80518 Haven't tried them out though.

Before loading anything into your Phatty, I would do a SysEx Dump of your Phatty to your computer beforehand, just in case there are any issues. You can do this without the editor. I use MIDIox. It's pretty simple to figure out. I was a complete noob with SysEx and I figured it out in about 15 minutes. Those Soundtower Editors are more trouble than their worth.

i've got into working with the sysex librarian for osx. just need to work out how to do the dump on the LP. i'm guessing it's a menu option?

Yes, it is an option in the Master Menu to do a SysEx dump. To receive an SysEx dump, you just need to send from the host, nothing needs to be set in the Phatty. It will just take it.

As far as I know, presets can cross OS versions. If there were hardware changes, it might cause an issue, but all changes are software. I believe I have loaded the orginal LP presets into my LPSEII without any issues. The DSI Tetra has had a bunch of OS updates and none of them cause issues with the presets.

They will work but you may have to go into the menu to change a setting from global to preset/internal/midi for the LFO or ARP. If I remember correctly, most settings work out, but where menu stems did not exist they are assigned a default value. OS 3 added global parameters for LFO and ARP. So those cause the biggest issues in getting a pre OS3 sysex preset to play correctly on OS3.
