Hi Amos,
I have an LP (stage edition I, 3.1) and a Voyager Select Series (3.5)
I have been trying to poly chain them so I can have a duophonic synth. However, I don't know why but it is not working.
I tried using the Voyager as the first voice. I connected its MIDI output to the LP MIDI Input. I did set up everything as explained on the youtube video. It simply does't work. It doesn't work either if I use the LP as the firs synth.
I've tried everything, but the Voyager doesn't stop when it's supposed to. It sounds always, when I press the first key and the second one. The LP voice has been set up to be the 2nd voice and I hear it every other pressed key. However, they are not sharing patches (sounds). Even though the LP sounds every other voice, it's not working on the same patch. Both synths keep on playing on their own programmes.
Some questions that might help:
Do I have to have the same programs on both synths?
Is it possible to use the Voyager as the first synth, or I must use the LP?
Please help me on this. I can't poly chain my my jewels so I can play duophonically. Very frustrating
Thank you very much,
Max

If you want to use the Voyager's keyboard as master you have to switch off the local keyboard control on the Voyager then connect a MIDI cable from the Voyager's output to the Voyager's input. Use the thru output of the Voyager for the MIDI input of the LP then it is working.
Have fun,
Rudi

Ok. As I play it seems it is alternating between voices. However, the patches remain being different. Do I have to load the Voyager's patches on the LP?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The Voyager is a different synth as the Little Phatty. So sounds won't ever sound alike, even if one would be able to transfer the saved sounds to another my means of MIDI SysEx or fancy software.
Chaining the LP and the Voyager is nothing like using the newer Dave Smith synth (Tetra, Morpho) which are mainly a like sound and feature wise.
I would rather use a SlimPhatty hooked to a Little Phatty for polyphonic adventures. These two synth are able to share sounds. But you stil have to dump them manually via SysEx from one to another.
The only synths I am aware of for being able for chaining and automatic transfer of the selected sound of the master is the Waldorf MicroWave combined with another MicroWave or the seldom seen Waldorf WaveSlave (MicroWave minus the UI).

Re: I can't polychain my Voyager SS with my LP stage I!
I understand they are different synths (I own both). But they have a lot in common (ladder filter, Osc 1 &2, envelopes). I can literally build most of the LP's patches on my Voyager.
I'm not sure you're right. If you can't play the exactly the same patch in both (or more) synths, why would Moog call it poly chain? If you check on the LP's manual, you'll read that you can actually get poly with 2 or more synths. And it says that you can chain voyagers and phattys alike.
Any other views on this?

Only use 2 oscs for all Voyager patches, and make sure overdrive is all the way down on the LP...and remember, you'll be able to get CLOSE to the same sound, but because they AREN'T the same synth, you will not get exact results.
