Electric bass with SP?
Electric bass with SP?
How do I program an electric bass sound with my SP? I'm having trouble with it. Looking to learn some programming skills from fellow Phatty users!
Re: Electric bass with SP?
Thanks for responding with a patch. I've never tried using a downloaded patch.. so I did some research on how to do so and downloaded the Sysex Librarian. However, I'm a bit confused on how to dump and receive sysex files on my SP. I can not find a thorough tutorial on how to do this with SP. Could you explain or point me to a good tutorial? I would appreciate it very much.
Re: Electric bass with SP?
download midiox: http://www.midiox.com/moxdown.htm
plug SP into computer. USB or MIDI DIN. both work fine. I use USB without issues.
Be sure to set the SP to a preset that you do not care to erase as when the SysEx file loads, it will automatically overwrite whatever current preset is active.
Install and open midiox. Go to Options > MIDI Devices. A new window will pop up. You should see the Slim Phatty in MIDI inputs & MIDI outputs. Click on the Slim Phatty in both the input and output. You should now see the little phatty in Port Mapping and Port Map Objects. When done, hit OK. You should see in the MIDI-OX monitor Opened MIDI Input & Opened MIDI Output.
Now go to View > SysEx... A new window will pop up. Go to File > Send SysEx File. Navigate to the file you downloaded and double click it. It will load to the SP. Play and enjoy!
If you want, before you load the file I sent, go to the SysEx window and then to Sysex and select "Receive Manual Dump". The entire soundbank will dump from the SP to your computer. You can then save it and send it back to the SP the same way you send the single preset.
Hope this helps!

Re: Electric bass with SP?
Of course, I just realized you said you downloaded SysEx Librarian, which is for Mac and Midiox is PC. So, I have no Idea how to do it with SysEx Librarian.
Re: Electric bass with SP?
is midiox only for pc? I have a macbook

It is. Sorry. Sure you could find someone here that could help guide you.
Best bet for getting sound is start with the Calibration preset. Leave it at only 1 OSC. Adjust the Filter to get that bassy sound, then turn the EGR Amt to the right of center a bit and adjust the Filter EG to get a brighter initial sound that decays to just bass. Then tweak until its just right.

Yeah, short of downloading a new preset, bass is easy to program fresh. Just set the OSC octave to it's lowest setting, tweak the filter to taste, and add whatever else you want to it. Moog bass patches should already be installed on your Phatty though, you can always tweak them into submission.
