moog dvd

Got the moog dvd today. It was enjoyable, but did not really focus on what I thought it would. Too much time spent w/ money mark and dj spooky. The minimoog V demo doesn't work on my computer. Put it up on half.com for 12.50 if anyone wants it.

I had similar feelings about the DVD. I thought it was strange that the performances from the DVD mainly featured non-Moog synths. The Album Leaf’s song, from the extras, was based mainly around a Microkorg, midi controllers, and a small Roland synth. Then, when they did use their Moog, a Prodigy, it was lost in the mix. I was also surprised, and disappointed, that the DVD didn’t cover the MF line.

Yo ...........

Not to disagree just for disagreements sake, but I thought the dvd was awesome. Of course it did not cover all things moog, but like Hans said,
he didn't set out to make an all things moog documentary. Its based on interviews between Bob and other collaborators and people that I think Hans wanted to put together with Bob. Like Dj spooky... I did feel that that interview should have been cut before the Clouser interview, which did get cut. The only reason I say that is because Spooky didn't seem very interested in what Bob was saying. It was like he was waiting for Bob to shut up so he could talk..Not to bad mouth Spooky, I'm sure I'd be a little awkward in front of the Godfather of Analog synthesis as well, so I'm not really talking bleep- thats just how I took it . The Clouser interview was centered around the use of the Moog Theremin .. Much more interesting interview by far..

I would have loved to see interviews with Brian Kehew , Roger Manning JR., Nick or JB of AIR, BEck, and that whole crew of avid Moogsters !
But like Mick Jaggar said .."You can't always get what you waahhhaant..." But I got what I needed out of this DVD. Which was a candid look inside the mind of a Genius !!! Just watching him talk to people and seeing how excited he gets telling the old stories was enough for me. It could have been totally sans any performance and I would have still loved it..

Anyway, I havent tried the software yet, but I have the Modular V ware and a real Model D, as well as Voyager NOW!.. So I won't be bummed if it doesn't work out..

I would say the highlights of the dvd for me would be the intro.. Very cool animation !
As well as the Herb D and Walter Sear interviews.. Those guys are old skool and just great.. I met Herb at Moogfest this year and I must say, he is one really cool dude.. I also really like the Money mark stuff, but that guy running his guitar through the mini didn't seem to be doing much.. Whats up with that..???Que Onda ??

Anyway, I'm sure I'm leaving quite a bit of my reviews and comments of this out.. But I'm sure you'd like me to shut up now.. :)
