Stuck Notes

Post by David P Rangzen » Fri Jul 08, 2011 7:57 pm

If Moog is not doing anything about this because there have not yet been enough complaints about stuck notes, I am here to complain. I get stuck notes. With every song I try to play. I too am using Hammond XK3c as controller and was hoping to replace organ bass with some phat synth bass. Instead, I just get problems.

FYI, no stuck notes when using Alesis Nano Bass as sound module. Only with Moog SP. I am pretty frustrated.

Is there a fix yet for this problem?

Also, impossible to save the name of a new preset on the SP using the manual instructions. Does anyone have a work-around for this?

Thanks,
David

I too am getting very frustrated with the Stuck Notes issue. I posted a comment about it on another thread several days ago but nobody has replied with any tips yet. Here is what I've tried: I've turned off MIDI Clock from my keyboard controller and from my DAW; I disabled everything from my keyboard controller that I could beside Note On/Note Off messages (apparently something still gets through but I tried!) and have tried many permutations in Logic 9.1.5 as well with regard to how MIDI is handled. No luck. EVERY time I record some MIDI, it hangs. And if I use the USB MIDI, it freezes up the Slim Phatty itself (the display gets completely dark).

Can someone provide some assistance??? I think it's an awesome sounding synth, but if I can't record with it, it is useless.

Also, does the Little Phatty have this problem when you record MIDI? If not, I might just send this one back and upgrade.

Cheers

Hi.

NO PROBS WITH REC MIDI BUT:

I cleaned my desk a few days ago and wanted to make some music
but voilá no midi connection to my sp. 2h of frustration later i tried
the midi via usb which i have used never before. it was working but
i got hangig notes and then i knew what some people were talking about.
sometimes the melody got played right and correctly and sometimes not.
so my anger was rising and i wanted to write here in the forum.
then i tried if the midi cables were plugged in correctly and they were not.
by cleaning the desk they were pulled out a little bit.

now the SP is doing it´s job almost well and i am lucky to not use the SP via usb.
because this was b.llsh.t.

i hope you can solve your issues!
peace,
unfoog.

I had that happen in the first week or so of owning mine, I bought it last March. I was scared to bring it to gigs. I checked all the obvious, the output button, midi cables (in/out etc.). The only default settings (other than presets) I have changed since buying it has been setting it to Autotune. But nothing addressing the symptoms you both, and I, were having. It was suggested on this forum to ensure you power on the midi controller first, then the Slim. Now, this may or may not have been the problem, but I've only had one issue since. The last time was at a gig on tour, and it wouldn't put out any signal, no matter what was powered on first. All connections checked over and over. All cables and power supplies replaced with brand new back-ups, and nothing. Just had to improvise with other keyboards... It was the last song of the last show of the tour, I was a bit pissed off.

That was in July and I haven't had the issue again, it's been great. The thing is, I don't trust some of the other gear in my rig sometimes, so the Slim fits in. But that ain't right.

I am unfortunately still having the same problems but did come up with a workaround.

Since I'm not able to use MIDI (DIN Fiv) with the SP, I started exploring the other option and I thought I'd share before others run into the same headaches.

Using USB MIDI:
For one, the DAW must be set (at least with Logic) to not send MIDI clock or MTC. I also have to turn off MIDI clock on my controller. Next, I have to be sure not to use more than one device with USB MIDI (or else none of them work -- may be a limitation of USB MIDI...Need more info to confirm). With the SP set to receive USB then it should be smooth sailing from here. This has worked so far since my last post.

Thanks for the replies!

Cheers

BTW, I called Moog and talked to them; they were a huge help and offered their assistance if I needed it anytime M-F 9-5. So my hat's off to Moog for supporting their products!

I had stuck notes using DIN MIDI and posted about it probably nearly a year ago (?)

One issue I found was quality of power supply - the circuit in the studio was not good. Changing the circuit the Keyboard (and SP) was connected to removed a lot of stuck note issues. However like you I settled on doing MIDI via USB to SP number 1. I then merge that USB MIDI out via DIN, to SP number 2. Works beautifully as a duophonic setup. I sometimes also run both SPs mono, in which case the second SP gets MIDI in via USB also.
