Solutions here are many and varied. Here's mine:
The CME UF5 MIDI controller provides just enough controls for Animoog, the keyboard feels great, and 49 full-size keys provide just the right span for using it a soloing instrument. The keyboard also has a flat surface on the upper right side just big enough to hold an iPad, which is secured with a large square of non-slip material underneath. An iRig MIDI interface module nestles just below the CME's encoder, making for a compact Animoog-based rig that fits nicely on the top of a multi-tiered keyboard stand (and the red end-cheeks ARE a nice touch...).
Can't comment on how this arrangement would hold up under heavy gigging, but I've done a few shows without any problems and the iRig has operated flawlessly throughout.
