Yes. But I heard alot of people complain about the evolver editor.Boeing 737-400 wrote:The Moog Librarian is made by the same company that did the one for the Dave Smith Evolvers, right?
alesis andromeda opinions
just a thought on the cost vs. value of the editor/librarian... it's a LOT easier to come up with a bank of 128 "perfect" patches, if you can fly them in and out of the Voyager from your master-stash of 1024 (or however many) presets saved on your hard drive... God bless the editor software, I say. As for whether or not it should be included in the price/ bundled with the Voyager - Hmm, dunno. A lot of people still don't even have a computer/midi interface in their studio, it would be an extra expense and yet wasted on them I suppose... although such people should probably "get with the times" anyway, that's beside the point. I'm afraid I can't really speak to that issue.
As for Goa trance, I have been a psy/Goa addict since 1998, and I love Astral Projection. However, I would never want to get all the same gear and make exactly the same sounds... I think Goa, like any established musical niche, needs to keep evolving or it will stagnate and die. Keep the same feel and intensity, but change the sounds around some! It's not 1998 anymore, and Goa shouldn't get stuck in the past (although it's worked fine for Blues music, so there's a counter-argument)... Anyway, I have found that the Voyager is one of the best "psychedelic-modulating-space-noise" machines I have ever tweaked on, which is key IMO for good psy-trance style music... it does pumping bass although seems to lack the squelchy snap of a 303 or Roland SH-series... but that could just be my programming. Try playing with multi-oscillator FM for some of the most shredding ripsaw leads you could want; better than that tired-ass Supersaw any day. Keep on making goa trance, but keep it FRESH and keep it REAL. (Oh, and by all means use a Voyager if you've got one - start making your own patches and get creative with it)
Just my 2 cents!

Very well said. Although I was reffering to Astral Projection as an inspiration, as well as I like their sounds. Other than that , I would not want to be them. I am sure God gives each of us a unique ability to hear and reprodue the sound that is unlike what others make.I think Goa, like any established musical niche, needs to keep evolving or it will stagnate and die.

It is not a difficult matter to get 303, some early SH, as well as EMS VCS3
out of Vger. Keep at it.

The rolands have a different envelope shape to the voyager but if you have the 351 you can patch filter envelope output into the voyager's envelope rate and this (with a little judicious twiddling of course) will enable you to get quite a bit closer to the roland sh sound...Amos wrote:it does pumping bass although seems to lack the squelchy snap of a 303 or Roland SH-series

Hello, letterpeopleshow wrote:LWG, do you have any voyager-VCS3 patches that you could post?
i'm intrigued!!
Presently have a patch or two based on Synthi A model and working on others. The VCS3 itself is not difficult at all to approximate, but the instrument has some idiosyncracies that are a bit harder to nail.
Most of the modules on the instrument can be overdriven, including the spring reverb. The slope function of the filter is also a bit unusual.
Most who used the EMS synths used them mainly for special fx type patches, so adapting the sound of the instrument for equal tempered use (bass/lead patches) is a bit more out of the norm.
The Voyager can evoke the overall spirit of EMS sounds however, the quirks that give the VCS3 and AKS their personalities make those patches require extra effort. A spring reverb unit doesn't hurt either.
Will post one at some point.

It simply sounds that you are very inexperienced and for some reason thought the Voyager would give you everything you were after to copy (or should that be *not* copy) Astral Projection. Its hard to see why you would say that the sound of the Voyager is 'limited' (pardon me, that is laughable) and that you are now interested in the Virus - I assume you know the difference between True Analogue and Virtual Analogue?
Try and get to actually see, touch and play these instruments before you buy anything more. And I know this sounds judgemental but perhaps invent some new sounds of your own, rather than try and regurgitate someone elses material!

July 8/9th is the WEMF and Astral Projection is one of the many going to be here. Best of all it is being held in my town so I am looking fwd to seeing these guys live and hearing/seeing what gear they have with them. Any of you coming to this let me know at least I have a pool and fridge etc. along with a few pieces of gear for you to play around on.
